*In the dark hour before dawn, Cal crept back in the door silently, attempting to pick her way up to her room.*

*She'd almost reached her room when a tall, imposing shadow came into view before her*
"Rather late, my dear. Did we get distracted?"
*His tone was a chiding one, almost bordering on tsk-tsk. There was an undertone of annoyance, however*

"I met a friend." *She said simply. It was true, in a way.*

*He studied her very carefully for a moment, and after some silence, spoke in an oddly detached tone of voice*
"You have joined the legions of the night, I see."

*She would have blushed, had it been possible, and had she not been openly gaping at him.*
"So that is why it's so damn dark around here." *Was all she could get out, beginning to rely on her old sarcasm.*

*He leaned a bit forward, somewhat looming over her, slightly baring his fangs*
"Yes. But I could not simply say up front that I was a vampire, now could I?"
*He watched her intently*
"Who did this?"

"The friend that I met. Daniel."

"I see."
*He crossed his arms, looking less annoyed now and more tired.*
"He did, I am guessing."

"Yes, he did." *She said. She vaguely wondered if he was disappointed in her. Except the sex had been good, so she really didn't care.*

*Krolock was no fool--as old as he was, and as many vampires that he himself had created, he knew perfectly what tended to happen between a fledgling and their creator. He new perfectly well what had gone on*
"Fear not, my dear--I'm not angry with you, I was simply concerned. One can never be too sure about someone's intentions, human or vampire."

*She nodded, yawning softly.*
"Okay. I think I'm going to go to bed." *She said softly, grateful for his concern. It was nice to have someone concerned about her... her father had loved her, but he hadn't really cared what she did--he'd been too wrapped up in himself for that.*

*He patted her shoulder in a fatherly manner*
"Of course. I must turn in, as well. We can always speak tomorrow night."

*She nodded, padding silently off to bed. She changed into a nightgown and made sure to close the curtains tight before allowing herself to plop down to blissful sleep. It had been a long night.*

*Heaving a sigh, he made his way through the expansive castle, heading for the room he'd used to hide away from the sun for centuries*

*THE NEXT MORNING EVENING*
*Later, after the sun had risen and set, Cal vaguely felt herself waking up. She was warm and comfortable in the huge bed, but eventually abandoned falling asleep and blinked her eyes open.*
*Then what she had done hit her full force once she spied the setting sun through a crack between the curtains. The light wasn't hitting her, but she could still see what was going on. She shut her eyes, rolled over so that she was on her stomach, hugging her pillow, and attempted to fall back into blissful, ignorant sleep.*
