How do I explain that I did this to myself even if I wasn't exactly willing?
*He shook his head.*
"...I wouldn't hold your breath."

*Genghis grew quiet again, looking pensive. And a bit perplexed.*
"So...you will just go on then?"
*His voice died, as if there was something he was debating saying.*
"What about Ruby?"

"She's...grown up, since I saw her last. I feel like I missed so much of her childhood, but...Nadir took good care of her. Surprisingly. I mean, Nadir's great, but...I had my doubts about how he'd be as a father. For good reason--I've seen how he is with Shadi, generally, and he doesn't even KNOW about Sinclair!"
*He bit his lip.*
"I'm rambling. Ruby's good. She's doing really well. I think she's started a cult devoted to an android."

How could she be grown? Has it truly been so long?
*Without taking the time to question Emile about what an android was, Genghis rubbed the bridge of his nose before finding a seat. This was a bit much to bear.*
"Nadir...raised your child? Where have you been?"
Other than becoming a man, of course.

"I left her with Nadir when I...left. When I knew I had to go. The typist...she spoke to me. Told me things. What to expect. I had just enough time to sell the cottage and see that Ruby was going to be alright and then it was time to...go. I spent a lot of time in...limbo, I guess you'd call it. Maybe it was just the typist's brain. I played a lot of pinball."

*Genghis's brow lowered disapprovingly. Even in all the time they had spent together, he had never cared for her talk of those"higher powers". They made him excessively uncomfortable. Not to mention he had no idea what pinball was.*
"And this...typist....it will not let you return to your feminine shape?"
And be with me?

"...even if she wanted to--and she could--I think she's more perverse than that. She'd force me to stay like this if it meant more pain for me. It seems to amuse her."

*Genghis looked abhorred, well as much as he could and still look rather stern and stoic. What kind of life was that, to be so tortured for another's amusement? He did his best not to draw any parallels to his own practice of interrogation. He felt protective of her--him. He frowned, but offered his hand.*
"If there is anything that I can do to ease your suffering..."

*Emile's eyes fell shut for a moment and he gave a single, humourless chuckle.*
"You can't," *he sighed, getting to his feet.* "I should probably go."

*Genghis felt helpless. He hated feeling helpless. And yet he spent so much of his time here that way. It was really starting to piss him off. But he stood nobly, accepting Emily's decision.*
"If that is what you need."
*He swallowed carefully.*
"But you are always welcome in this place."
No matter what you look like.

"Thanks, Genghis," *he said with a small smile before turning and leaving the tent.*
