"I swear I'm alright, I...I just...I'm just...cold. A little. That's it."

*Genghis eyed her shrewdly, as if he did not for one moment believe that. But he turned silently to a wooden chest and opened it, procuring a heavy blanket. He brought it back and offered it to her.*
"Perhaps I should wait until you sleep again. You might need another."
*His voice was deadpan, but not cruel.*

"Thank you, but...I don't know if I could sleep if I knew you were watching."

*Genghis shut his eyes and rolled them beneath their lids. This helping thing was harder than it should have been.*
"Fine then. Good night.*
*He turned and left her room.*

*Emily rolled over with a sigh and tried to fall back asleep.*
He's weird. I'm going to have to ask Brandi what his problem is...

***NEW NIGHT, SAME NIGHTMARE***
"....N-no! Please..." *Emily fell back into incoherent muttering as she slept, her face twisted with some phantom pain and terror.*

*Genghis made his way into her room.*
Not again...
*He knelt next to her, hesitant to touch her. He spoke as soothingly as he could manage.*
"Emily...wake up. You are dreaming again."

*Emily tossed and turned in her sleep, feeling cold hands creeping up her throat, trying to choke her.*
"NO!" *she cried, her hands going to her neck and clawing at air, prying away the hands that did not exist. Her fingers caught at the chain about her throat and ripped it off, sending the ring arcing from her grasp to land with a quiet ping in the nearby brazier that gave warmth and a little light to the room. She rolled over, burying her face in her pillow and wept quietly.* "...don't...don't...don't..." *she gasped.*

*Genghis saw the metal flash into the fire.*
Oh craps.
*He stood quickly to fish it out. With nothing readily available he paused for a moment before reaching his bare hand in to retrieve it because he's totally hardcore like that. The flames licked his hand, but the metal was surprisingly cool. Lifting it, he noticed strange symbols on the inside of the ring.*
That's odd.
*He quickly took it to a small desk in the corner and pulled out some parchment and a quill to copy the symbols down. The he rushed back to Emily and took her hand, pressing the ring into her palm.*
"It's all right...I have retrieved it. Do not be worried."

*Emily propped herself up on her elbows, disoriented, looking down at the ring.*
"Oh...thanks..."
*She blinked up at Genghis.*
"--you touched it? The ring, I mean."
*She peered curiously at him.*
"...and you didn't want to keep it?"
He must be more pure of heart than I thought...

*Genghis looked slightly confused.*
"I know that I have a reputation for raping and pillaging, but it is only a gold ring. It is certainly not worth disrespecting you to keep it. It is yours."

*Genghis's brow furrowed slightly. Something wasn't right.*
"Are you all right? Does something vex you?"

"I--I'm fine."
*She threaded the ring back on the chain and fastened it about her neck. It felt so cold it almost burned, but at she same time she was intensely relieved to have it back.*

*Genghis's brow furrowed deeper. He pointed to the ring.*
"Is it your custom to not wear rings on fingers as most cultures do?"
