*Aimee had decided to blatantly ignore Marius sleeping in his wheelchair and her mother humming in the kitchen. She was perusing the bookshelf in Eponine's room, and her eyes caught sight of a large tome in German--why did her mother have a book about the Hapsburgs in German? She shrugged and grabbed Der Hapsburgs, curling her feet beneath her and losing herself in the story of Elisabeth of Bavaria...*
((Cue Tod. Either one, really. But especially Mate.))

*After things had quieted down in the living room, der Tod walked out with a sleeping Alexei to see Aimee wrapped up in reading a book. A book that almost made him do a double-take, but he still managed to show no expression*
"Hello again, Aimee."

*Her eyes flicked up to him and then back to the book.*
"Oh, hello." *She said absently, mostly still enthralled with the book.*

"Where did you find that?" He asked nonchalantly.

*She shrugged.*
"Lying around." *She turned a page, sending a plume of dust up into her face. She coughed and sneezed a little.* "I've always been fascinated with the Hapbsburgs... it's one of the reasons I took German instead of Latin at school."

You weren't the only one that found them fascinating.
"You know three languages, then?"
*Aimee knowing German was fortuitous--she'd be able to talk to her little brother, who still hadn't shown signs that he spoke English or French.*

*She nodded.*
"English for Renn, French for Uncle Marius and Mama, and German for myself." *She had turned to an illustration of a painting of a young Sisi, and she put her head at an angle, thinking about the girl who had become Empress at a younger age than Aimee was now.*

(( She's so pretty!)) *He stared at that picture for longer than was probably necessary before quickly tearing his eyes away. He'd gotten so used to Renn that he'd almost forgotten what she originally looked like* "It is always good to know different languages. You can never be sure when you may need it." *He glanced down at Alexei in his arms*

"Mere de dieu, look at all that hair." *She muttered to herself, then she looked at the sleeping baby.*
"Wonder why he doesn't speak French or English." *She wondered aloud.*

"Good question. I know I slip into German at times, but for Renn and Eponine I always spoke English. He ought to have picked up that, at least."

*She shrugged.*
"His parents aren't exactly normal. This isn't the first time that Maman has escaped Death. Figuratively, anyway." *She added hastily, still a bit weirded out that Death (or his equivalent) was standing in her mother's living room, holding her brother.*

"She would not be the first, Aimee." *He said amiably.
Sensing her discomfort around him, he kept a discreet distance between them.*
"I hope I don't make you uncomfortable." He said gently. "I am more than most would think."

"I understand, but it's just kind of weird to come home and suddenly your dead mother is alive again, and she has a baby who she insists is the German personification of Death's, and then the other German personification of death is your surrogate aunt's boyfriend and your brother's manny babysitter."
*She smiled a little.* "Besides. I couldn't have picked a better boyfriend for Renn. I mean come on, how many people would babysit your roommate's kid for you and survive the crazy that this apartment seems to thrive on?"

*He chuckled at that*
"Yes, this place can be...quite a handful, especially for someone who has missed out on the more colorful moments. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else if it does not have Renn in it."
*He glanced at the book in her hands, a thoughtful expression on his face. Had anyone told her who Renn was yet?*

*She flipped through the pages absently, shuddering when she came to the suicide of Prince Rudolf at Mayerling.*
"Though evidently there are crazier families than ours." *She said, mostly to herself.*
