*Eponine shook her head, smiling.*
"Well if you ever want to read, we have a lot of books here." *She pointed to the bookshelves.* "I'll be sure to keep some juice around. I happened to like Uncle Tom's Cabin, but your father is a bit... old-fashioned, in a sense. He wants things to stay the way they were, and they're changing in a way he doesn't like."

He wrinkled his nose. "So...he wants men to be owned by other men and to be whipped and forced to work, or else they'll be severed from everything know and love? That's kinda crazy," he mused. "But thanks! I love reading! I just started reading this play called Julius Ceaser! It's really cool!"

*Eponine was impressed by the child's tirade. Most people didn't think like that until adulthood, if they thought like that at all.*
"Yes, it's strange to me too, but that may be because i'm French... and you're perfectly welcome. Renn or I should be here. Would you like to hold her?" *She asked. The boy cvertainly seemed responsible enough to hold her.*

"Well, I picked up English from Papa, so that helps." He beamed and held out his arms. "I'd love to hold her!"

*Eponine placed the baby carefully in Fitz's arms.*
"Careful of her head. Support her neck, but don't touch the top. The bone hasn't fused there yet. There's a soft spot."

He did as Eponine told him. "Woa! She's heavy! She looked so light, like one of Annie's dollies, but she's real heavy!"

*Eponine smiled as Aimee cooed up at him, giggling.*
"She's much more fragile than a doll, though. And I think she likes you."

"I like her, too. And I'll be extra careful, gentleman's honor," he said, repeating what he'd heard his father say sometimes in a historical nonfiction book called Manhunt.

*Eponine grinned. He was trying to be grown up, and it was absolutely precious.*
"I'm sure you'll live up to it, and I'm glad you like her. What's your twin sister like?" *She asked innocently. She hadn't seen the twins since they were newborns, and wondered how they fared.*

"She's...well, I'll be honest, she's kinda bratty. But she has her moments...sometimes. Rarely. Papa spoils her a lot, and Mama doesn't do much about that."

*Eponine cringed.*
"I wasn't a very nice sister when I was her age, either. She'll come around sometime. She probably just likes the attention--though if I were your mother, I wouldn't let John spoil her that way. She'll get better, though. I did." *She said, smiling a little. Then she thought for a moment.* "Did I ever tell you what my name was?"

"No, mademoiselle," he replied. "What is it?"

*She smiled and would have extended her hand, but he was holding the baby.*
"Eponine Thenardier." *She informed him, and continued:* "But everyone calls me 'Ponine."

Fitz smiled. "'Ponine," he repeated. "So...how d'you know my name? I don't think I've ever met you before."

*Eponine smiled.*
"I met you when you were younger than Aimee. It makes sense that you wouldn't remember me--the hospital where your mother delivered you was worried about her having twins by herself, so I came over to check on her. I held you... you were much better behaved than your sister." *She said, grinning. Aimee grabbed her tiny feet and stuck one in her mouth.*
