((I think the revolution was in the 1830's, and this was in the 1870s. So imma explain our timetravel warping or somrthing.))
*Eponine flinched. He didn't know the year.*
"Marius... it's not 1832 anymore. We're in the year 1875... I don't know how we got here, but that's why there's the huge new opera house, and the horseless carriages... there isn't a fight anymore. As far as anyone's concerned, all of our friends are long dead."

"So that Blakeney pouf gets to keep on fighting the Republican government in the 1790s but I can't get some well-deserved revenge on the bastards who slaughtered 99.9% of my friends?"
"Oh..." *Marius was quiet for a long moment.* "So...what can we do?"

"Well when you put it that way... anyone up for bombing the government?"
*She looked down.*
"There isn't much we can do. I woke up in a sewer... next to... next to..." *she shuddered.* "Next to everyone. They must have thrown us into a mass grave. I was delirious--I swam and I ended up in the cellars of this place. Someone carried me to the infirmary and that's where I woke up. John came in a few days later, and I got a job there, and a room. More recently, Renn and I bought this apartment together."

"And you're happy?"

*She blushed.*
"I don't know what I am. I've avoided feeling for most of my life--being in the streets, you learn to work and not pay attention to what you want."
((one of these days we're both going to die from over-wangsting.))

*Marius thought for a moment.*
"If...if there's anything you need...I have some money Grandfather left me..."
*He blushed a little.*
"I mean, I said I'd take care of you--"

*She blushed profusely.*
"I couldn't ask you to do that. I... I can take care of the baby on my own."
((Oops, I didn't realize until after that I had quoted my theme song.))

"Please, 'Ponine--I want to help..." *he reached across the table and laid his hand over hers.*

*She smiled weakly.*
"You help by just being here." *She said. "I didn't think I'd ever see you again."

"Likewise," *he murmured, his gaze quietly intense.*
((I gotta go get ready for work. Back in about an hour, if we're lucky.))

*She bit back a half-sob, half-laugh after staring back at him for a moment.*
"I was beginning to forget what you looked like... every day it seemed your picture would lose some detail. And I... I was so afraid of forgetting you." *She said, tears leaking out. She looked at their hands and squeezed his.*

((We weren't lucky.))
*His thumb gently stroked her knuckles.*
"In the days after you died...after I thought you died...the image of you in my mind only became clearer...stronger. I saw you as I had never seen you when you were alive. When I saw you again...I wasn't certain if it was only my mind...my dreams of you were so real sometimes."

*She blushed and smiled (and tears very nearly welled up) as a warm feeling crept up in her stomach. It was rudely interrupted, however, by some sudden pressure. The pressure happened again. Eponine took her free hand and put it against her abdomen. She felt it again and grinned. The baby was kicking.*
"Marius--come over here for a moment." *She whispered.*

"What is it?"
