"You make a fair point."
*Valmont studied his fingers.*
"But if I'm to risk my very profitable relationship with Madame Dahlia, I need some sort of assurance."

"Look, you want a contract signed in blood? Gonna be kinda difficult me being all tied up."
*She was trying to keep up the flirty facade, but it was hard going. She was used to decency, and people melting in her hands--or at least at her smiles; she wasn't used to this place. Then the flood let loose, not tears, but thoughts of a world in which her father was the perfect dad and Laura Palmers didn't die.*
"You ever have someone all the way at your mercy, and let them go? Just help them off the hook, and turn away? That even possible, for guys like you?"

*She was passionate, he'd give her that. Not at all what he expected, coming here. It intrigued him. Though not with sympathy.*
"That sort of thing can ruin a reputation," *he said.* "Still... the thought of you and the walrus, as you so charmingly referred to the Baron de Cherbourg out there, gives one an aesthetic indigestion which is considerable."
*He bent over her chair, his fingers finding the ropes which bound her wrists.*
"First things first."
*He kissed her.*

((OMG, he's so wonderfully horribly canon! Aesthetic indigestion! Eee!))
*She was torn between disgust and wanting to give him something so he'd help her, and my the niggling acknowledgment that he was rather a good kisser.
After several moments she ripped her mouth away.*
"That's NOT first. First are these ropes. Then my daring and heroic escape. And then find out how charming I can really be."

*Valmont had kissed a goodly number of women, both willing and not yet so. And while Audrey was inexperienced, he could detect the signs of his skill at work in her almost-abandon.*
"But of course," *he said, knowing full well that she knew that it was first, as he'd just shown.* "You've overwhelmed me so far; I can hardly imagine what's in store."
*His clever fingers, usually put to other purpose, made quick work of the knots that held her. He unceremoniously grasped her arm and hauled her to her feet, not caring about her circulation or how long she'd been in that chair.*
"Now. Be a good girl and do exactly as I say. If you do not, and you are seen, you risk far worse than you've imagined thus far. I will precede you down the hall to the left, down the back stairs behind the last door on the right, and through the kitchens. I will take great pains that the way is cleared for you to pass. But I warn you against attempting to escape me if you come to the alley behind and do not see me. Believe me, I will see you, and I will know."
*He pulled her close, appreciating the lush young flesh before him.*
"You're new at this, so I'll tell you something. I don't lose."

((What d'ye supposed Audrey most fears, anyway?
"And I don't play around," *she said, attempting to sound flirtatious and to pull away in a teasing way.* "Okay, you're the boss. Now can we get outta here?"

((Her dad? Not being taken seriously?))
"Patience."
*Valmont smiled tightly, then let her go. He couldn't fathom why he was doing any of this, but it did seem a lark, and anyway he had nothing to lose. Not really. He cracked the door open, then finding no one he started down the hall in his habitual gait. There were noises coming from behind some of the doors, but none opened. At the entrance to the back stairs he beckoned and then kept moving without bothering to see if she followed.
It was him, or this house. She'd either choose correctly, or it was out of his hands.*

((Oooh, I love that insight on not being taken seriously.))
*She followed close behind. It was sort of a out of a frying pan and into a fire situation, and Audrey knew she was deep in over her head. But she was sick of this place, and even if this man was horrible, he was way better than some of them.*
And...he was a brilliant kisser.
*He was better than her father.
She tried to contain tears she'd not let anyone see, earlier, and remained quiet.*

*With only a few murmurs in the ears of the kitchen wenches, Valmont had the way cleared. He emerged into the dark ally--hardly his sort of place--and waited. He wanted to see what she would do. She had surprised him so far.*

*She went the way he had said, and the way was indeed clear. She was thinking about what to do once in the alley. As he had foreseen, that would certainly be the best place to escape him...but then again, he expected that.
She moved into the alley and looked around for him.*
((Dunno if she sees him? And does this go to another thread?))

((It's fine. We'll move in a minute.))
*Valmont lurked--he could, you know, when he needed to--in the alley, waiting to see what she would do. She emerged, and she was a rather magnificent-looking creature, youth and inexperience aside. She hardly needed it. No, this was too much fun to pass up.
He emerged from the shadows.*

"Oh, there you are," *she said brightly.* "My hero. And everything."
*She walked right up like she was going to melt, but instead kissed him on the jaw and twisted quikly away.*
"Now're we getting outta here? You know, down, silk, candlelight; I'm sure you're into all of that kind of thing. What with your . . . costume. Shall we?"
*She tugged, eager to be away, and eager to perhaps spot a way to ditch him.*

*The world was full of wonders, Valmont thought, and women were most of them. Well. All the better to dominate, he supposed.*
"Of course," *he purred.* "You'll love my rooms. 'Daddy' would approve, I'm sure."
*He didn't for a moment thinks he planned to accompany him. But he didn't for a moment intend to let her get away. He motioned towards the alley's entrance.*
"My carriage awaits."

Carriage? Everyone around here is nuts!
"Your rooms? I really don't know. I was raised with flannel and wood paneling and lots and lots of heads on the walls. I don't think you've really even done it if you haven't without a buck staring down at you. You're probably way out of your depth, mister."

*Valmont's carriage, its driver well-trained, halted in front of them and the door was opened for them. Valmont raised a knowing eyebrow at Audrey.*
"If you mean to crudely refer to the sexual act, mademoiselle, I daresay you haven't 'done it' at all."
