*Virginia looked expectant.* "Well?" *she said.* "Are you going to speak of it?"

*Sylvia shook her head slightly and hinted at a laugh.*
“I just don't want to burden you. It’s silly. You have enough on your mind as it is. Are things all right? I mean, since he was here. Have you tried again? I mean to say, have you taken another client?”

*Virginia shook her head.* "I have sat in the drawing room with the ladies, and conversed with gentlemen, but none have asked to accompany me above stairs." *she blushed a little.* "Perhaps I ought not to bring books with me during the evening."

*Sylvia’s smile widened.*
“That may be true. Perhaps we should work on some more lessons. Maybe some concerning the art of the tease. It seems to do you little good to have the skills for the bed chamber if we can’t get you out of the sitting room. Would that be agreeable?”

"Certainly--that is...you're certain there's nothing you wish to speak to me about? If Dr. Crane suggested it...?" *she seemed unsure.*

*Sylvia swallowed nervously and shifted slightly on the bed.*
“Virginia, I don’t want you to misunderstand, I believe in what I do. What we do. I think it’s important and that it makes a difference. That being said…Dr. Crane has suggested that I might…remove myself from my work for a while. I haven’t been feeling myself lately. He thinks it might help.”
*Her brow furrowed. She wanted to be held very desperately in that moment.*
“I just…I don’t know what to do.”

*Virginia smiled calmly, if crookedly, and reached out to gently stroke Sylvia's cheek.*
"You must follow your heart. Do what you feel is right, and what is right shall surely follow, in some way or another."

Follow my heart? I’ve spent my life proving that I have none. I am the spider, spinning silk eagerly. I am cold and ruthless. Why should I suddenly be so afflicted?
*Sylvia’s eyes hardened, but she smiled sweetly to Virginia.*
“You are right, of course. I am certain that everything shall end as it should. Thank you, Virginia.”
*She kissed her cheek briefly and stood.*
“I don’t mean to keep you if you had another destination. Thank you for the cookies. We can study your next lesson some other time.”

"Alright," *she said softly, rising from her seat and going to the door, as Sylvia seemed to desire solitude, or perhaps she was expecting a client. Of course she had not thought her friend might be in no mood to receive visitors.* "Goodnight, Sylvia," *she said with a tentative smile as she left, closing the door softly behind her.*

((It is possible. Giry was Madame Ironclad Nether Regions 1867 until she got married. Mostly because we forgot that people in love have smecks sometimes.))
