((I'll be leaving for today. G'night!))

*Her brow rose. Unsure of how to answer, she just nodded in understanding.*
"As you would have it, Mistress. I am grateful none the less."
*Sylvia looked to Virginia, debating with herself.*
“I’ll go fetch you some tea. It will help. If you still want to be alone then, I will leave you be.”

(('Night!))
*Virginia was silent as she hunched over the basin of water, merely nodding as Sylvia spoke to her.*

*Sylvia exited quickly, hurrying down the hall to grab a kettle. It seemed painfully true that a watched one never boils. She turned away, pulling down a tin of Chamomile tea and filling a tea ball. When it finally whistled, she turned back and put in the tea, grabbing two cups and saucers. She headed back down the hall as fast as she could manage so precariously balanced. She cleared her throat at the door, not able to knock with her hands full.*
“Virginia? Is this all right? Will you take some tea?”

*Virginia had curled up in a ball in the middle of her bed, and barely looked up as Sylvia re-appeared at the door.*
"Come in," *she said softly.* "Thank you. You didn't have to..."

*Sylvia’s eyes were soft. She entered and set the kettle and cups on a tray that she brought over to the bed.*
“I wanted to.”
*She poured a cup for Virginia. She stood again, heading to a heavy chest of drawers and procuring a small tin from one. She went back to the bed, opening the tin to Virginia.*
“Sugar?”

"Yes, thank you," *said Virginia, taking some and stirring it slowly into the cup. After a moment's silence, she blurted out:*
"I shouldn't have made such a fuss over..." *she broke off, sighed.* "It was unprofessional of me. I'm sorry."

*Sylvia sucked her lip in thought before answering, but her voice was gentle.*
“We all have clients like that. The ones that we would rather not share a planet with, much less a bed. I am sorry he was your first. It seems unfair.”
*She poured the second cup as Virginia didn’t seem to be chasing her away.*
“And tonight has been…complicated in general. No one will begrudge you for it.”

"He will," *she said, shaking her head.* "He shouldn't have found out like this. I thought it would make it easier...but I think I've only hurt him more."

*Unsure of how to put it delicately, Sylvia offered.*
“He is the one that you spoke to me about? The first day we meet?”

*Virginia nodded.* "This was the first time we'd seen each other since...since I told him I couldn't marry him."

*Sylvia swallowed carefully. That certainly explained a few things. She rested her warm hand on Virginia’s.*
“Then I’d say it went better than I would have expected.”
*Her voice softened.*
“Virginia, these things will happen. At the most inopportune times. You should know that you handled it extremely well for the circumstances. It was your right to ask him to leave, even if he was just another client.”

"He wasn't just another client..." *she said miserably.* "He loves me...or did. I can hardly bear to think of the pain I must have given him..."

*Sylvia licked her lips slowly, then met Virginia’s eyes.*
“Do you need to go to him? To make things right?”
*Her gaze lowered gently.*
“Are you sure that you do not love him?”

"I love him as one of God's beloved children! As I try to love everyone. My love is not what makes this difficult--the burden of being loved, I find almost unbearable." *She sipped at her tea, staring into nothing.* "He was the first to love me, like that. The first to let me know that there's more than fear and rape and...that means so much to me, now. He let me move on."
