*Sylvia’s lashes lowered.*
“Oh, it’s quite all right. Men can be…complicated. But you seem to have found a delightful one, none the less. I am glad to see that opposites can attract. I am sure you will be very happy. If you have so much cause to disagree, there is no doubt much passion to be had. What arguments may come in the days before the wedding will certainly be ravaged out of you both on the honeymoon.”
*She looked away for a moment, opening her fan and fanning herself lightly.*
“I am sure that you will tame him. If it is his wealth that seems to bother you so, perhaps you might find a cause that will please him to give it towards. He must have some weakness for good, if he is able to open his heart to love. What are his interests? Other than you, of course.”

*Virginia was beet red.* "I...I don't know," *she mumbled.* "And I'm not marrying him just so we can..." *she cleared her throat.* I don't know anything about him...only that he's good at...that.

*Sylvia smiled warmly and touched her hand gently again.*
“Oh but of course not. No one gets married for such things. He must have plenty of other delightful qualities. Perhaps you have more in common than you realize.”
*She looked to Virginia’s cup.*
“More tea?”

*Virginia looked stricken and nodded mutely for a moment, silent as Sylvia filled her cup.* "I can't think of anything..." *She looked at Sylvia.* "...we...did...that...once. I was pregnant, but then I lost the baby. That's what forced me into my first marriage--what made me so unhappy. I didn't want to repeat that. He still wants to marry me, even though I'm not pregnant. Which means...what? Of course, now that we're engaged, we can't...do that...until we're married. The first time--it was a mistake, I think. I didn't mean to."

*Sylvia poured her another cup. She sighed and looked to Virginia with compassion.*
“You do realize…that is, if he enjoys your…company, and you enjoy his…if you are promised to each other…”
*She shut her eyes for a moment before starting again.*
“A betrothal is like a promise, a vow. Why should you have to wait to make another one?”

*Virginia looked mildly puzzled.* "Because...it's a sin?" *she said, as though trying to guess the right answer rather than knowing it.*

*Sylvia did her best to suppress a laugh. Her eyes gentle, she smiled at Virginia.*
“Even if you believe such acts are sinful with others, surely they are not sinful with your husband to be. It is merely an expression of love. Why would you not wish to share it with him?”
*She was distracted as she was given the box with the note by a servant. Her brow furrowed.*
“Please excuse me Miss Sinclair. Something has come up. I will have to take your leave, but you are welcome to stay and finish your tea. Just please try to be polite, some people get nervous around loud noises. Please feel free to visit anytime you would like. Here.”
*She handed her a pale card.*
“In case there is any advice I can help you with.”
*She went back to her room to change before leaving for Mondego’s.*

*Virginia took the card and left, quickly feeling awkward as Sylvia left her alone. She glanced around the house, though, memorizing the location in case she ever knew anyone in need of refuge, as she had once been.* Well they seemed nice... *she thought as she went home.*

*A messenger sent by Mondego watched as the woman described to him left Madame Dahlia's house. As instructed, he approached the door about 2 minutes later to deliver another package to Sylvia.*
"May I help you?"
"I have a package for Madame Sylvia. Thank you."
*The messenger left the small envelope with the woman at the front. It was a plain envelope with what felt like another key.*

*Upon returning, Sylvia was not terribly surprised to find Virginia had left. Quite an odd girl, that one. She was about to return to her room, but a servant presented her with Mondego’s note. She read it quickly and took the key from it, putting it in her purse with the others. Putting her cloak back on, she headed to Café de Colombe as instructed.*

*Sylvia returned to Madame Dahlia’s in good spirits, shedding her cloak and planning some tea. She sat by the window contentedly.*

*Philippe's carriage drew up to the building and he climbed out frowning slightly to himself. It had been many years since he had visited an establishment like the one before him and he was aware of a feeling of acute unease. He walked towards the door and was greeted by one of the servants who escorted him into the main sitting room.*

*Sylvia took an interest as a new gentleman caller entered the main sitting room. She stood from her tea and approached him slowly, unsure of what his attitudes were at the moment. She greeted him with a thick accent politely.*
“Good evening monsieur. Can I help you? Are you here for someone in particular?”
