*She followed him in, looking around excitedly.*
"Oh, it's shiny! It don't look too different from the bars on the border planets. Cleaner, though. And it ain't any display screens."

*He laughed.*
"They haven't invented those yet," *he said, with that secret "isn't that quaint?" smile.* "But let's see if I can find the young lady who runs the place. I've heard she's very good."

*She giggled, nodding*
"That's so funny! What do they use to talk to each other then?" *She asked, puzzled. She hoped the hostess was as nice and helpful as Kirk was.*

((This is also pre-Drac attack, since I don't know what the resolution will be.))
*Brandi entered the room with an arm full of linens. Seeing the two new people, she tried not to squee. She set down the sheets and smoothed her skirts, approaching them.*
"Hello. What can I do for you?"

((Fair enough.))
*Kaylee grinned.*
"I'm Kaylee- I was thinking I might stay here for... for a while." *She looked up at Kirk to make sure she was doing okay. The people here might have strange customs.*

No worries. I know who you are. But tell me...did you and Inara ever...you know....
"Yes, of course."
*Brandi smiled.*
"You're most welcome. And will you be able to...you know..."
*She hated talking about payment, but it was expected.*
"We can barter, if that's better."
*Her smile was gentle.*

"I'd be happy to cover whatever expenses the young lady incurs," *he said smoothly, even if he had no idea how he'd pay that bill either.* "On top of my own, of course. Separate rooms."
*He smiled winningly at both of them at the same time. He's just that cool."

I thought the Federation didn't use money.
*Brandi nodded and smiled.*
"That'd be just fine. But the offer stands if it's needed. Not all folks 'round here have generous gentleman paying their tabs."

"I've heard wonderful things about this place. How... gratifying to find they're all true."
*He'd have to see her about that bartering thing, later.*

*Brandi nodded and turned to collect two keys. She handed one to each of them.*
"Just up the stairs to the right. Bathroom's at the end of the hall. I'm at the other end, if you need anything, don't hesitate to knock."

*Kaylee took the key happily.*
"Thank you very much!"
*She started up the stairs, turning to Kirk as she walked, blushing slightly.*
"Thank you- you didn't have to pay for me!," *she said with a grateful smile.* "If the rest of the people here are as nice as you and her, stayin' here'll be great!"

"You are always welcome."
*Brandi watched them go with a grin.*
Now that one I'll have to tell Jeremy. He'll give me hell for sure.

**SOME NIGHT**
*He was supposed to be dead. He hadn't known he was dead, not as a coherent thought, but he certainly hadn't been alive seeing as how the last thing he recalled seeing was Mary. Which wasn't possible. She was in Ireland.
And then, darkness. Followed immediately by FAR too much light, and he fell face first through the front door of an inn. And just lay there, too numb to move*
((Oh, btw, he looks just as messy as his avatar indicates))

((*drool*))
*Beatrice hurriedly put down the glass she'd been cleaning, and went over to the door. She leaned over him with a concerned look, and brushed her hair out of her face.*
"Are you all right, sir?"

*He groaned, shifted a moment, and tried to pick himself up off the floor. His arms weren't steady or strong enough for that, and he only succeeded in ending up on the floor again*
"What's all right? It's all wrong, everything."
