I know. You made a Creature, then abandoned him, creating one of the most famous gothic tragedies of all time.
"You can tell me anything."

"I mentioned before that I was a scientist. My work at first was simply general, to help others. But I quickly began to search for a way to stop death from claiming those who should not have died yet."
*His eyes grew distant as he began speaking of the past*
"It all stemmed from a desire to do good, to benefit all. Eventually, after many experiments, I found the way..."
*He fell silent, wondering if she'd believe him.*
"...I brought a man to life. But...not just a man. Something else entirely."
*How could he describe it? It almost defied words*

*Mira recognized the plot of both the book and the movie, but something strange happened in her mind. She recognized what he said in a way that had nothing to do with stories*
Could it be that reincarnation story is true? Was I really Elizabeth?
"Go on..."

*He slowly exhaled. Here came the hard part*
"He was...more than human. Incredible strength and stature, the likes of which I'd never seen before and probably never will again. I confess, he terrified me. At first I thought the experiment a failure, I thought that he'd only lived a short while--"
*The scene in the lab, with the creature caught up in chains, flashed through his mind unbidden.*
"I was wrong, of course. Not only about his short life, but in what I'd done with him."
*He suddenly looked away from Mira, unable to meet her eyes*
"I abandoned him..."
*There was undisguised shame in his voice*

"It drove him mad, didn't it?"
*Mira couldn't tell whether he still hated the Crature or simply blamed himself. Either would be understandable.*

*He looked back up at her in surprise*
"Yes...his rage was like a typhoon. I don't blame him in the least--after being left to the mercies of the outside world, without any warning as to what he faced, he had a right to want to destroy me...but...but those nearest to me? I cannot let that go."
*He coughed, as though to stop a sob from escaping*
"I don't care if he hurt me. I deserve it. But my family was innocent!"

"And the woman...the woman who looked like me?"
*She knew the answer, but had to ask*

*He touched her cheek, his expression answering the question before he spoke*
"He killed her. I caught him at it, but too late. He escaped...essentially making me a widower the same day I'd become a husband."
*Tears now threatened to spill, though they did not*
"I...made yet another horrible mistake. I didn't stop to think, the grief--no, that is not and excuse. I should have left her in peace...but I didn't. I brought her back to life. She couldn't really speak to me, but she didn't need to--I could see her anger plain as day. That is what plagues me...the look on her face, before--"
*He choked back a sob*
"Elizabeth set herself afire, and that in turn set the house ablaze. The creature--he was there, as well, though he escaped the conflagration. He'd wanted a bride, and was going to take her for himself."
*He shuddered*

"The fire..."
*Mira stood, looking to the window*
"Ever since I was a child, I've had nightmares about fire- demons coming from it."
*She bit her lip*
"Forgive me."
((That part's actually true....))

((Scary))
*The revelation momentarily struck him speechless, but then he quickly recovered and joined her by the window*
"Mira...you shouldn't have to apologize. If you were truly her once, then I should be the one asking for forgiveness. It was my mistakes that were the cause of it all."

"But I don't know..."
*She looked back at him*
"I hardly know what I am anymore."
((Oh, and Megan started a flashback in the Opium Den. It's no longer ambiguous...))

*He put an arm around her shoulders, and kissed her temple*
"You are Mira, it seems to me. Perhaps you have some things in common with another, but you are uniquely yourself. In the end, though, I am not the one that can say who you are--only you can do that."
((Why does this sound like a movie I saw once?))

((Dead Again? Man, Kenneth was hot in that...))
"You're right, I suppose."
*She smiled faintly*
"That's the problem..."

((*Melts into goo* I heart that movie...))
"Whoever you realize that you are, I know it will be someone that I care about."

((Crazy, misuderstood European composer in obsessive love...with no Emmy Rossum!))
*Mira blushed*
"I think I may be falling in love with you."
