*Brandi knew he was miserable, but she had high hopes this would help.*
"I promise that it's for a good reason. Watch."
*She took a deep breath, her focus honing. She slipped down, her body moving fluidly through the practiced forms, her breath a part of the dance. Finally she straightened, looking back to him.*
"It's a fighting style, but it's softer than most. Through focusing solely on the motion, I'm able to focus the rage into the pose and move past it, finding a calm."

"Huh," Cry-Baby said, trying to rid his mind of the vision of her twisting all over the place. "So that really works?"

"For me." *Brandi answered honestly.* "It doesn't fix everything, but it makes facing it easier."

Cry-Baby took a deep breath--through his mouth--and nodded.
"Okay," he said. "I'll try it."
Sounded like mumbo-jumbo still, and he didn't see how moving your arms like that could make those feelings go away, but if Brandi said it helped, it must be worth a shot.

*Brandi nodded.*
"Here. Stand like this, legs apart." *She did her best to show him, correcting him where needed, but careful not to touch him.* "No, push forward like this." *She demonstrated slowly.* "Keep your mind on your body, what it's doing."

What it was doing felt stupid, Cry-Baby thought, but he didn't think that was what she meant. His movements were awkward, uncertain, and though he tried he didn't know just what to concentrate one.
"I don't get it," he said at last. "I don't get what I'm s'posed to be thinkin' about."

*Brandi pursed her lips. It was rather hard to explain.*
"Um...ok. You know that feeling you get? Here." *She touched her belly.* "When you feel a fight coming on, that thing swelling, do you feel it coming before it does?"

Cry-Baby snickered like a schoolboy and then stopped.
"Uh," he said. "Yeah. I know what you mean. Like a rollercoaster, or somethin'."

*Brandi rolled her eyes, but she was hardly cross.*
"It's about taking that feeling and balling it up." *She shook her head. She sucked at explaining.*
"Shut your eyes. Then try to imagine it as a glow. Like energy you can see."

His eyes narrowed, but then he closed them. His brow furrowed. He didn't understand "seeing" energy.
And then he started to think about playing the guitar. About the electricity and the power and it being slung in front of him, released only by his own hands. And he sort of, not quite, started to imagine that guitar all... electric.

*Brandi smiled, a bit encouraged that he was at least trying.*
"Ok, try to hold on to that thought. Try to focus on it. When you feel like you can, imagine trying to pres that energy with your hands. Just a little, it doesn't have to be much."

Still skeptical, but trying to forget that, Cry-Baby focused on her words and relax. He imagined trying to focus himself before a gig, trying to get rid of distractions. And then on trying to get that one perfect chord to sound right, shaping his fingers (mentally) to the task.

*Unable to see what he was, Brandi asked gently.*
"Is it working at all?"

"Think so," Cry-Baby muttered. "I mean, I think I feel somethin'."

*Brandi brightened.*
"Great! I mean, keep your eyes shut and focus on it. Now try to imagine forcing all of that energy into a ball between your hands."
