*Virginia bit her lip, looking at the ring. She knew Declan would be upset if she actually were to sell it, even for a good cause. And...a diamond! A real one!* "Maybe I could...just try it on. For a moment..."

((Parents actually threatened to rip the cable modem out, so I'm doing this secretly and VERY quietly...))
Declan's face lit up and he grinned in satisfaction.
"Very good. Here, let me put it on for you." The man gently took Virginia's hand and inserted the ring on her finger.

((Aie. *is also quiet*))
*Virginia gasped as she got the full effect of the ring.* "It's beautiful!" *she managed, tears gathering in her eyes.*

Declan smirked.
"I'd have thought so. I could clearly see your reaction when I picked out this ring. So, my love, what now? Should we set the date?"

"Well..." *Virginia thought hard for a moment.* "How about...next spring? That gives us all winter to make arrangements, and plan everything."

((G'evening. )) Declan shrugged. "Sounds perfect. How would you like to go about this? Will it be a lavish ceremony with honorary guests? Take your pick."

"Um..." *Virginia's voice trembled slightly and she suddenly sat down in a chair near the hearth and leaned forward, putting her head between her knees and breathing deeply.* "I'm going to need a minute."

The self-satisfied look on Declan's face was quickly replaced with concern.
"What's wrong? You need anything?"

"It's...it's all happening so fast," *she said quietly, sitting up after a moment, pressing the heels of her palms over her closed eyes.*

((Watching the news and just found out Angelina Jolie has officially adopted another baby.))
Declan soothingly rubbed Virginia's back, etches of anxiety drawn on his face.
"Perhaps you would like a small cup of tea? Water? You do know, this is not happening overnight. We have plenty of time to consider everything."

*Virginia rested her pounding head on his shoulder.* "I know," *she sighed.* "I know. It's just..." *she half-smiled and reached up to brush the still wet hair from his eyes.* "It's been a long night already. I'm sorry...I'm tired and being irrational."

The frown remained on Declan's face. He knew Virginia was hiding something; he just didn't know what.
"Somehow, I receive the feeling that it's not just that. There's another reason, isn't there?"

*Virginia shook her head.* "That's all..." *She stood up.* "I should go home..."
*She put on her nearly-dry cloak and pulled the hood over her head, kissing Declan on the cheek quickly before opening the front door of the inn and staring into the rainy darkness beyond the front step, not realizing it was far too late to find an available carriage on the streets.*

Declan made a face. Perhaps, his intuition had merely been incorrect. He walked outside and laid a hand on Virginia's shoulder.
"You should stay here for the night."
((And I will be going. Parents are in a rage. O.O Gooood night!))

((Goodnight hon!))
*Virginia turned back inside, and took off her cloak.*
"Alright," *she whispered, lowering her head for a moment before going to the kitchen and having a quick exchange with Faye in hushed tones. She came back into the coffee room and hugged Declan.*
"I'm to share Faye's room. Goodnight."
*She went upstairs and took off Faye's borrowed dress, folding it neatly over the back of a chair before climbing into the bed and sitting with her arms resting on her drawn-up knees, her long dark waves of hair gleaming like mahogany in the light of the dying fire and single candle lit by the bedside.*
