*There wasn't one. Her body was pale and limp.*
*Death approached behind the doctor, looking to her.*
"You have time. You need to clean her up."

*Crane showed no emotion, not even a tear. He would appear weak to no one, no matter what the circumstances. Still, his hands were shaking.*
"Why? She's dead, after all..."
*His voice didn't quite falter, but it took effort*

*Death sighed in frustration.*
"You humans and your certainties. She only appears that way. He can kill her, but he can't make her dead. Thatcher is off the List. As a killee and a killer. She can't be on the List at his hands. Neither of them can be."
*He took her lifeless hand.*
"But you have to save them, or natural causes will take them both. There's nothing I can do to stop that."

"Them? Why should I save Thatcher?"

*Death let out a sharp noise, somewhere between a snarl and a laugh.*
"Thatcher will burn in Hell. Satan will see to it. But I meant..."
*He gestured to Sylvia.*
"Them. Her...and the one that waits inside her."

*Crane said nothing. He wanted to ask who the father was, but he would wait for the opportune moment.*
"Alright."
*He began to examine Sylvia's corpse*

*Death sighed, contented that he was willing to keep an open mind. Or at least a more open mind.*
"If you can just clean her and close her wounds, I should be able to move her. I could...take her somewhere safe."

*Crane nodded*
"I can provide only basic medical care. She'd be best at a hospitol."

*Death stared at him.*
"And what are you going to tell them? That she'll improve in time? That the whole death thing is only temporary? You can do this. Just...try. For her. For them."

*Crane took another look at her wound*
"I'll do my best."

((Works for me. )) *Death watched calmly, waiting patiently. When Crane was done, he shifted slightly.* "You're done? I can take her now, if you're ready."

*Crane looked back up, his breathing a bit choppy*
"I've done all I can."

*Death looked at Crane, regret in his voice.*
"I'm sorry, that this happened. I...I'll do everything I can to keep her safe. Until she is better. Until..."
*The words faded and he moved towards Sylvia.*

"When will that be?"
*He looked at Death, his eyes demanding an answer*
"When will I see her again?"

*Death looked at him somberly.*
"That depends. Do you want to deal with...her recovery? Or would you just like her back when she is her old self again?"
