*The sight of Irene, key in hand, assailant down and most likely dead behind her, was suddenly one of the most exciting things he'd ever seen. He tamped down the reaction, making a mental note to admonish himself for such unwonted reactions later.*
"Good," *he said simply.* "There is a window overhanding the Seine at the end of the corridor--can you swim?"
*He grasped her by the elbow and hurried to the window, where he reached beneath his evening coat for a length of strong, yet lightweight, rope. A wall sconce offered adequate purchase. He turned to Irene.*
"I'd prefer for you to go first--in case the alarm has been sounded. But if you require me in the water before you jump, I will go."
((There; a chance to go a couple ways.))

"I'll go", *Irene said. She hurried towards the widow, then turned before climbing out*
"I just wanted to say thank you. I don't know why you're risking your life for me, but I certainly appreciate it."

*Holmes glanced around the hallway, not meeting her gaze.*
"It is my profession, Madame," *he said stiffly.* "No thanks is required."
And we're not out yet.

*Irene nodded, and began to climb out. The wind was cold, and it was hard to climb in her dress. Nevertheless, she managed to make her way down to the end of the rope, and then plunged off into the water*

*Holmes followed, admiring the quick way she moved, the lack of fuss as she slid into the cold water.*

*LATER* ((because this writer is thrifty))
*Shadi and Rochester found another room, close from the ballroom but fully private.*
"Why, what's the matter, Rochester? Has someone been neglecting you?"
*It was unclear who was leading whom, such was her eagerness.*

*Rochester's pout softened and he brushed a lock of hair back from her face.*
"Perhaps I am just sated by your attentions in a way that no other can provide."
*All lecherousness dropped away from him for a moment, left honest and bare.*
"I have missed you, Shadi. Terribly."

((I love these two. Poor Rochester!))
*Shadi thought, for a moment, that she might say something flippant, like then come around more often. But she didn't. She just looked up at him, smiling at the open regard she felt for and from him, and took his hand in hers.*
"I've been thinking about the barn," *she said finally.* "A lot. I missed you to. Not just... for that."

((I love them too. So thanks. )) *Rochester sucked his lip for a moment in the memory of the time they shared. He glanced back to the door and then to her once more.* "Ah...so then...for some of the other qualities of my tongue then?" *He grinned and nuzzled her neck, pressing her gently against the nearest wall. He brought his lips to hers in a deep and satisfying kiss.*

*Shadi melted against the wall and trembled with delight at his eagerness. She knew Rochester hadn't been lonely in the days since they'd parted, but the fact that he could so sincerely convince her of his regard made her feel special. She slid her hands under his coat. When the kiss broke she looked up at him playfully.*
"I suppose I'll let you do other things with it, if necessary."

*Rochester shivered slightly at her touch. It had been too long. He looked to her with a grin.*
"Oh darling, you know I live to serve. I am happy to let you decide what is necessary in this case."
*He cradled her face gently with one hand and kissed her again.*

*Shadi was quite willing to be made happy, but what to do when part of that happiness was dependent on his being happy?*
I suppose, like me, he's happy making me...Shoot, I'll never figure it out.
*So she let her fingers creep round his chest, only the shirt between them and his skin, and she felt the shape of his back as she gave him her mouth. Her front was rather pleasantly pressed up against his. Suddenly she slid out from the wall and swiveled him to take her place, the better to press herself to him as hard as she might.*

*Rochester was a bit surprised by her quick switch. He arched his brow deliciously.*
"You're in a bit of a mood tonight, eh? It's lovely. You must tell me what makes you so...the clothing, the food...I must know so I might be able to recreate it for you on a whim."
*He kissed her playfully, his fingers tracing the neckline of her dress.*

"Just you," *she said, shivering pleasantly. It was true, too--it didn't take much to make her feel like she'd jump out of her skin if she didn't touch him. She paused then, to think about it.*
"I guess it doesn't hurt if there's chocolate or violence or secrets or you in a nice coat involved."
*Which, come to think of it, just about covered everything.*
