*Holmes frowned.*
"It's here. There's a young lady with some apparent facility with the things examining him right now. I shall keep it under close scrutiny."

*Francis was at first confused why Holmes would have brought the robot here, so close to Irene. But then he realized that Holmes would never do anything that would but Irene in danger, since he ... Francis didn't want to think about how Holmes felt about his wife.*
"Good. I have never seen anything like that ... thing. And I've seen a lot."

*If Holmes was a betting man, he'd have wagered that he had seen more than Francis. But no matter. He wasn't here to quarrel with the man.*
"Neither have I. I intend to get to the bottom of this; for what it's worth, it is malfunctioning and does not seem to pose a threat to anyone."

*Francis looked back to Holmes, not sure what to say.*
"I hope it stays that way."

*Holmes' mouth tightened in a grim line.*
"I would give my life for her," *he said quietly.* "I make no claim on her affections; but it is true nonetheless. She will not be harmed while I have it in my power to prevent it."

*AFTER A LITTLE WHILE...*
*Dr. Crane stepped out into the ward*
"You two are here for Ms. Adler?"

"I was afraid of that."
*Francis whispered before Dr. Crane entered. Francis looked up expectantly at him.*
"Yes, we are. Is she alright?"

*Crane had to work to keep from smiling. Screwing patients minds up just because he could- he certainly took pride in his work.*
"Physically, yes. Psychologically..."
*He sighed*
"She's suffering from delayed post-traumatic stress disorder due to her rape. This only aggravated it."
*He adjusted his glasses*
"Have you heard of Multiple Personality Syndrome?"

Yeah, I used to have a character who suffered from it.
*Francis frowned, though he hadn't heard of it before, the name kinda spoke for itself. Still he wanted to doctor to explain it. Perhaps it wasn't all that bad.*
"No, please, what is it?"

"It is a mental condition whereby a single individual evidences two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. The diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior and that there is associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness."
*Just the very corner of his mouth began to smile for half an instant.*
"In this case, three personalities, representing the Id, Ego, and Superego."

"I haven't been keeping up with my Latin, what does that mean?"
*Francis replied, distressed by this new, but strangely enough not surprised. He had come to deal with the fact that nothing in their lives ever went normal. It felt like he was cursed.*

Neat!
*Francis took a deep breath.*
"Can I see her?"

((You're not going to torture them by not letting them know about the condition? )) *Holmes blanched at the doctor's report. This was unthinkable. He bowed sharply to Francis, who most likely hadn't seen him, and returned to his... robot.*
