((Because if they let House in, they must not have a great screening process...))
*Dr. Crane sat down in his chair awaiting a patient. It was a bit humiliating to have to resort to honest means for a living, but who knew what interesting specimens he might find here.*

*Virginia walked in and sat down.* "I need someone to talk to," *she said quietly.* "And I don't think my fiance would understand..."

*Crane looked the woman over, trying to read her.*
Very fragile. A bit naive, perhaps.
"Would you like to tell me what the problem is?" he asked.

"Well," *Virginia took a deep breath.* "I...I'm happy, I know I should be happy that we're engaged. I AM happy," *she repeated.* "But I still feel like...there's a ways to go. Like there's still some level on which we're not connecting." *She stared at the ring on her hand.* "Like...this."

*Crane took notes and then looked up at Virginia*
"Are you afraid, perhaps?"

"I still feel like something might go wrong...that these little differences and doubts might only get larger and worse after we're married...I don't want to make him regret anything," *she said.*

*Crane smiled inwardly. So she was one of those women. Wounded by a man in the past, terrified of it happening again. It was a fear he himself did not know, having never been in any sort of relationship.*
"Correct me if I am wrong", *Crane said soothingly*, "but did something happen to make you mistrust men?"

"Yes," *said Virginia shortly.* "I was raped. By two different men. One, an aristocrat...he lied to me, tricked me. When I became pregnant, we were married in name only. I lost the baby and then he...died."

She paused before saying he died- perhaps that means something.
"I see."
*Takes more notes*
"And this fiance of yours- is he an aristocrat as well?"

*Virginia looked down at her hands in her lap.* "Yes," *she whispered.*

"I suppose it is true that the nobility often have their own, highly original, sense of morality. But what are your particular worries about him?"

"That he can't change...he...he used to be, well, not as bad as my first husband, but he used to have that same careless kind of attitude...he still does, a little." *Virginia frowned.* "I know he's trying his best, but he's never been the kind of person I ever imagined spending my life with." *She shrugged.* "Then again, I never imagined much of a life beyond the convent."

*Nods*
"You say he reminds you of your late husband. Do you find yourself drawn to men who hurt you?"

*Virginia shook her head.* "On the contrary. They seem to find me."

((No kidding- look at your shrink.))
"Why do you think that is?"
