I want to be out of here and making sure that Shadi's all right.
*Rochester pulled away from her.*
"You won't give me what I truly want."

*She pouted.*
"And what might that be?"

*He turned abruptly to face her.*
"Don't. Just don't. You know damn well that I want out of this place."

*She gazed at him innocently, chin in hand.*
"True. But I've already told you; I can't do that."
*Her smile lost its innocence as she leaned forward.*
"What would you do to her? If you could; if nothing stood in your way. If she forgot it tomorrow--what would you do?"

*He met her gaze defiantly.*
"I would tell her that in all the world, I love only her, and that I would give it all up to be with her always."

(((aughggh! *is ded*))
*There was a moment of silence. Then she laughed out loud, her terrible mirth seeming to take forever to spin out. She wiped tears from her eyes.*
"Oh, lovely! And she's supposed to... what? Marry you? Support all your perversions while playing the dutiful child bride? You're not the type, Rochester. What will she do when you're back to your old tricks, hmm? I've seen enough in that room to make the idea of you 'giving it all up' is ludicrous. You poor, deluded fool."

((Sorry, couldn't help it.))
*His face grew cold.*
"You asked me what I would do. I answered. I don't need your judgment on the matter."
*He sighed.*
"After all, what does it matter if I'm to be trapped here."

((I know. I love you for it.))
*She shrugged.*
"I guess I was hoping you'd be entertaining yourself in some other way than moping. I mean, if you must be here."

*It was Rochester's turn to laugh, a bitter, hollow sound.*
"If I'm to be here indefinitely, what is a spot of moping? Honestly? Surely you can grant me that."

"Fine," *she said crossly.* "It's not like I'm having any fun with you here."

*Rochester gave the slightest grin, as if it were some small victory.*
"Perhaps you should go then. You know where I'll be."

*She gave him a funny look.*
"Indeed."
*She glanced over, and as if in answer two figure glided out of the darkness. She laughed and held her hands out to Dorian and Erik.*
"It seems this is the only bed," *she said in apologetic tones.*

*Rochester slipped out of the bed deftly, drawing a robe around himself.*
"Take it."
*He returned to his chair by the fire. He felt hollow. Empty. Listening to this echo of Shadi wouldn't cause him more pain, for he was already full of anguish. He stared at the fire for a long time.*

*She enjoyed her men loudly, calling their names in turn, whimpering piteously, and making none of their doings a secret. Occasionally she glanced over at Rochester and laughed, the firelight dancing in her eyes.*

*After a while, the sound was almost hypnotic. It was as if it wasn't real. Perhaps it wasn't. Perhaps he had just gone mad. If he hadn't, he was quite sure he would soon. He shut his eyes and rested his head back, a calm lull washing over him. He get through this. Or at least go crazy enough not to notice.*
