*Raoul looked up at Scarlett at the noise.*
"Is there something the matter cousin?"

*Scarlett smiled sweetly.*
"Why, don't you get terribly bored in this house?" *she asked prettily.* "I do declare I've heard so much about Paris but I haven't seen a bit of it yet."

*Raoul frowned.*
"Have you not? Well we must remedy that. I shall take you to the Operahouse this afternoon."
*He smirked to himself.*
"There will be much to entertain you there."

*Scarlett's eyes brightened and she smiled dimpley at him.*
"Oh, would you? That would be simply divine, cousin."

*Raoul straightened up. She was really very pretty. Innocent too.*
"Of course."
*He stood.*
"I shall send for the carriage."

*Scarlett smiled up at him, even as she lamented the fact that she'd have to emerge upon Parisian society looking like an old crow.*
"Oh, yes," *she said.* "I'm ready when you are."

*Rebecca entered the parlour at her mother-in-law's request.*
"You sent for me?" *she asked softly, standing her ground firmly. She knew the old harridan didn't approve of her now that her father had firmly seen to it that her dowry was entirely hers to do with as she pleased and would never belong to any de Chagny except her children. The thought made her smile a little to herself and she rested her fingertips against her stomach for a moment before the Dowager Comtess gestured for her to sit.*
"Please, my dear," *said Héloïse.* "I feel I owe you an apology. You understand that I was upset...I only wanted what was best for my son."
*Rebecca regarded her mother-in-law seriously and unwaveringly.*
"I hope you realize that what is best for your son is what he has," *she replied.*
"Yes...yes, of course."
*Héloïse smiled and poured tea for them both.*
"Will you take tea with me? It is mint--I hope you don't mind. My indigestion has been terrible as of late."
"I don't mind," *said Rebecca amiably. Perhaps the woman really was eager to mend the gap. After all, she was going to be a grandmother--she would no doubt want to take over a part in the child's life. She sat and sipped at the strong mint tea, fighting back a cough as her eyes watered.*
"....and it is good for your indigestion?" *she asked after a long while, breaking the silence and taking a break from forcing polite sips of the tea. Héloïse seemed unaffected by its strength.*
"It does wonders for me," *said Héloïse with a sly smile before she glanced at the clock.* "Oh! You must excuse me, my dear. I completely forgot I planned to go pay a call upon the Duchess of Varent."
*Rebecca stood.*
"Of course I will not keep you," *she said, her words polite, her manner well-bred, but her soul rejoicing at being able to leave the awkward visit behind her. She left the room and Héloïse rang for a servant to clear away the tea things.*
"Mind you wash those cups out, well, now," *she said severely.* "They were filthy last week."
*Still wearing her sly smile, she went to pin on her hat and soon left in her carriage for her friend's estate for an afternoon visit.*
