"The girl, Rebecca."
*He rubbed his forehead hard.*
"She must leave or I shall not be responsible for my actions."

*She did not flinch. Whether her plans had gone swimmingly or fallen disastrously apart had yet to be seen.*
"Need I remind you that she is here for your sister's benefit? What can the girl possibly be to you? You've barely spoken two words together to her at meal times, and I fail to see how she could possibly drive you to commit violent acts against her life. She's just a girl!"

"Violence?, I could commit no violence against her!"
*Philippe banged his head against the wall.*
"She is just a girl, just a sweet, beautiful girl."
*He paused.*
"And I am doomed to hell."

*Héloïse feigned bland surprise.*
"...are you...implying that you...have feelings of a tender nature for her?" *she asked with unaccustomed gentleness in her tone.*

"No...yes....I do not know."
*Philippe sighed.*
"But I cannot remain here, knowing that she is under the same roof. She gets under my skin, says things that no one should say. I cannot endure it."
*He turned back to Heloise*
"She is just a CHILD mother. She has no idea... she has a sweetheart, probably the same age."

"I was married when I was her age," *said Héloïse placidly.* "She's a young woman, Philippe."
*Her glance was sharp.*
"But you are right--she has no idea...of ANYTHING. God help you if you dishonour that girl--she has such prospects in society! If you dare do anything to her..."
*She paused as if in thought, though she already knew what she was going to say.*
"Why not marry her and have done with it?"

*Philippe stopped dead. He couldn't. She would despise him.He needed to leave this.*
"I... will consider it. I am going to bed."
*Philippe moved towards the door, heading to the hallway. On his way he noticed the brandy and snatched it up quickly.*

Merde.
*With a sigh, Héloïse went back to bed, hoping at least that he might get drunk enough to get caught in a compromising situation with the girl and be forced to marry her.*

Percy remained standing.
"I seek an answer to my question, de Chagny," he said softly.

*Philippe was silent for another moment.*
"The match was sudden. My mother felt it prudent that it was kept quiet. I confess, the thought did not occur to me. I took her word as my reply."

Percy's eyes narrowed.
"There would be no match that must be so sudden that her family cannot be informed."
His eyes narrowed further.
"Unless you dishonored her."
His hands clenched tightly.
"I trusted you with Vianne, and yet you sought to defile my daughter?" he whispered.
"You dog! I ought to kill you where you stand!"

*Philippe shook his head.*
"I no more dishonoured your daughter than I did your wife. She was pure when she married me. How dare you suggest otherwise as if I had no more self control than an animal?"
*Despite his resolve he could not help his voice raising to a shout.*

((Shut up and drink your Slurpee, kid.))
"Then WHY was I not informed? In God's name, have you any idea what kind of fear you put Vianne through?" Percy thundered.
"You of all men, I thought would care about her feelings on the matter!"
He shook his head.
"I thought you an honorable man."
