*Rolls eyes.* Let me think.. *He mocks surprise.* Oh, a baby!. *His face hardened.* I can read medical reports, I know the loss was your choice.

"Because you didn't give me one," she fired back, tears flowing unchecked. "You insisted on an heir, although it was plain I wasn't interested in children yet. I'm only nineteen, you know, you can't expect me to want to be tied down already! I tried, because once again, I wanted to make you happy - but in trying to do that I was losing everything that made me happy."

((I know Raoul hasn't responded yet, but I'm on a roll here...))
Marianne's dog began growling at Raoul, sensing her mistress's emotions, and she put a hand on his head.
"I loved you, Raoul - in fact, I still do, I won't lie about it. But I've made too many sacrifices for the sake of your happiness, and in doing so you've become blinded to the fact that I'm a person too. I need more than an occasionally romp in bed. I need someone who loves me enough so that I am enough. You're not sated with the love of one woman, and I'm exhausted with trying to be better than the others. Your ego demands that each one of them worships and is devoted to you - and now I see that you're not worth my devotion."

((Did you forget the end of the book? Percy is so freaked that Marguerite could have been hurt that he carries her all the way to the Daydream, completely ignoring the fact that he's been hunched over, tied up, and beaten for several hours. Later, in The Elusive Pimpernel, he fights a duel for Margot's honor, because Chauevlin insulted her. I'm so lending you my books the minute I can buy some non-first edition copies.))

((Oh I've got the first one, and I've been trying to badger my library into giving me the others. The ending of book one is more loving rather than jealous, though. And it's super-human strong and hot as hell. How did Margot die here, by the way?))
