"Paris continues much the same as it always has, as you can see. As it always will, I think," *she said with a small smile as she began to relax. She didn't have to tell him anything. He wasn't here to ask her anything. He did not have to know.*

*He smiled a little, as well*
"So I've been told, even by others."

"Well I'm certain you may trust your own judgment of Paris. You were...you used to--you lived here, once."
*She had begun walking again, but walked with him, rather than away from him.*

*He nodded*
"Strange. I used be frustrated at having nothing to do but wandering these streets. And now that I'm here, I find that I actually cared about this place."

"The place. Of course. It's a beautiful city," *she said quietly, turning in at the post office to mail her letter.*

*He glanced down at her, eyes guarded, though there was a spark in them*
"I cared about more than cold stone." He said quietly.

"It has history, as well," *she said lightly.*

"A lot of history." He tried to match her tone, but the words were weighted by his emotions--he was thinking of the history that involved her.

*She turned her face to hide the flush beginning to spread across her cheeks as she finished posting her letter and picked up the mail left for her--including a letter from Stefan. She walked with Rudolf back out to the street and sighed, inwardly. She wasn't being his friend as she'd promised--she wasn't being honest.*
"Rudolf, forgive me...I--I'm--I did not expect...I do not know how to..."

"It's all right, Becca." He said, briefly leaving a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"I'm not being very good at this, it seems."

"That makes two of us," *she replied with a more genuine though abashed smile.*

*He gave her a boyish, almost shy smile*
"I always thought I'd know exactly what to so say...."

"Maybe you do not have to say anything," *she said as they walked along. It was enough that he was here. Talking would so spoil things...it would lead to questions...and answers she just wasn't ready to give him.*

"Maybe not."
*He wanted to hold her hand, or put an arm around her shoulders, or something...but wasn't sure if he should. Instead, he settled for walking beside her, glad for even that much. It felt as though it had been ages since last they'd walked together*

"...Austria does well, I hope?" *she said, somehow feeling that silence was worse--besides, she could stick with vague pleasantries.*
