Evey smiled sadly, "oh, I think it does matter...maybe not now, maybe not tomarrow...but farther down the road, I like to think we've made a difference"

*Buffy smiled.* Yeah? Me too. So uh... what's your gig, then?

Evey returned the smile, "my gig?" she laughed softly, "used to work at the BTN, although I doubt that's what you meant." she paused, "I suppose I'm a freedom fighter...although I cannot say I've ever stopped to think on it like this before...all I know is that everytime my world has changed, it's been for the worse, and I try to turn it around to the way it should have been."

*Buffy had no idea what the BTN was. Bagel Tasting National? Bulging Tower of Noodles? Buffy Takes Nyquil? Whatever, it didn't really matter.* Freedom? From... what? Aren't you from, like, England or something? Giles never said anything about slavery or anything.

Evey smiled in that same sad way she had before, "yes, I'm english--born and living in London. I can assume you're American then?" she paused, "ah, apparently we're not from the exact same time...especially if you're from the U.S.--enjoy your freedom while you can. no...we didn't have slavery...There was an epidemic at St. Mary's and Three Waters, a school and a water treatment plant, people were in a panic...and brought in a new political regime. Sutler took over..." Evey stopped again, "England became a totalitarian state...that was 20 years ago...well...before I came here obviously. But I don't want to ramble on and bore you. what about you?"

*Buffy blinked at her.* Um... wow. That really sucks. *This was all making less and less sense--was it time travel, or dimensions, or was it all an elaborate dream?* So... this Sutler guy... Demon?

Evey laughed, "I'm sure none of that made sense" she shoo her head, ?"chancelor Sutler? no, I don't believe he was...is...a demon...just power hungry..." she looked over at Buffy, "why do you ask?"

*Buffy shrugged.* I dunno. It's just, lots of times people get power, they want more, they become demons. Or they already are to begin with. Mayor in my town? Giant demon snake. Ate half my graduating class, before I blew him up. *She bit her lip.* I wonder why we're here, though. It's not... right. I mean, things don't work the same as at home. I can't decide if we've traveled through time, or space, or dimensions, or what. Giles never told me about this stuff. Usually it happens, and he fixes it.

Evey looked at her, surprised etched into her face "your mayor was a demon....snake? and I thought V was odd at first..." she shook her head in disbeliefe. "I have no idea why we're here..." she paused "V left to do something for the fifth...and never came back" she stopped again, before deciding to go on, after all, from the sound of it, Buffy wasn't from the same moment in time she was, and well, there wasn't much anyone could do in the late 19th century about the fifth of november, "I went looking for him and well" she gestured to the gown she wore, "now look."

Yeah. It was a thing. *Buffy shrugged. Just another apocalypse. She looked at Evey.* I think... I think we're from someplace very different, *she said.* So who's this V? Your boyfriend?

Evey nodded, "so do I..." at the mention of V's name, she was somewhat surprised at the tight feeling in her chest, she looked away from Buffy for a moment, and gazed out the carriage window, watching the french countryside pass by. "no...not a boyfriend..." she answered finally, "just a very close friend..." she paused, still looking out the carriage window, listening to the dull rythmic clop of the horses hooves against the dirt road V would love this.... She finally turned bakc to Buffy, "well, where are you from then? considering we obivously come from different...worlds"

[quote author=liz board=outside thread=1154100979 *She tilted her head at the gentleman.* "I imagine you spend most of your time in town, Sir? A country estate, at your time in life, may be more a matter of business than a means of pleasure and retirement. I fancy you'd much prefer the excitement of town. Unless of course, you have a wife and family residing in the country." *A small frown passed quickly over Elizabeth's brow, and disappeared just as soon, as though she had momentarily thought of someone disagreeable in her past.* "Have you any sisters, Sir?"[/quote]
Ramsey blushed uncharacteristally at her words. "There is no Lady Cheltenham at the moment," he replied with a slight grin, "Nor little Cheltenhams to carry on the name, although my relatives insist on constantly throwing females in my path! I find that the young ladies they deem worthy are not suited to my tastes."

*Elizabeth tilted her head.* "And why is that? Surely there must be some young heiress with beauty and charm enough to do well in running your household..." A wry grin crossed her face. "And a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife," *she said dryly, fighting the urge to roll her eyes.* "Or so my Mamma tells me and my sisters daily."

"Through the course of many London seasons I've discovered that beauty and charm don't always account to much," Ramsey explained. "Of course, it is always a pleasure to have a comely face to look upon..." his eyes lingered on Miss Bennet for a moment. "But beautiful or not, I have no taste for simpering misses with not a thought in their head." He smiled. "I'm sure you can understand that, seeing as you do not seem to be one of them!"

*Elizabeth laughed.* "I'm sure I can understand that, seeing as my sisters are some of the silliest girls in England! Excepting Jane, of course, she is a dear, and by far the prettiest of us all. As she should be, for she is an angel in temperament."
