*Virginia walked into the chapel and knelt to pray silently. Dust motes danced brightly in the stream of jewel-toned sunshine that fell through a stained glass window nearby.*

*Aimery slunk down the steps to the chapel quietly. He had been relieved to find there was one in the Opera. He needed to reflect on some impure thoughts that he’d been having. He felt very guilty, but wasn’t sure what to say in confession. He figured that some time alone was just the thing he needed to clear his head.
As he hit the floor, he froze. He hadn’t been expecting anyone else. But there was a pretty young lady. Aimery didn’t know what to do for a moment. He didn’t want to interrupt. He turned gracefully on the ball of his foot with every intention to ascend the stairs again and leave her in peace.*

*Virginia looked up at the sound of footsteps and smiled at the young man who entered.* "Hello," *she said in a polite, friendly tone.*

*Aimery turned back nervously, his head lowered in attempts of hiding his rising blush. He bowed politely. Should he just go? He felt that she at least deserved an explanation of why he didn’t greet her properly. Pulling his note pad out, he scribbled and approached her cautiously.*
Forgive me. I did not mean to interrupt. I can go.
*His eyes met hers with kindness.*

*Virginia read the note and glanced up into the young man's gaze.* "Oh, you're not interrupting," *she said sweetly.* "The house of God is open to all who approach, and none is not welcome here, remember."

*Her sweet words made Aimery smile. He nodded his head in agreement. Thinking for a moment, he added.*
Thank you for your kindness. I am Aimery.

"I'm Virginia," *she said with a warm smile.* "It's very nice to meet you, Aimery," *she said quietly, peering at him from under her long dark eyelashes, as he seemed rather shy at being looked at directly.*

*She seemed so nice. And shy. It was a safer feeling than many he’d been having recently. He turned back to the pad, then met her gaze briefly.*
The pleasure is mine. Do you come down here often?

*Virginia nodded, folding her hands in her lap.* "I love it here. I was going to be a nun..." *Something twisted inside her, and her face darkened a little. It still hurt to think of letting go of the life she had loved. A moment later, her gaze cleared and she looked back up at Aimery with a smile.* "But I can still come to church."

*Aimery’s brow furrowed for a moment as he pondered what would make her change her course. Then again, he had certainly considered the priesthood. Dancing had kept him from it. It was a selfish choice, but it was the one thing that he felt he could give to others while being able to express himself. His smile returned in sensitive understanding.*
Of course. That is the beauty of God’s love. I find myself ever grateful for it.
*He paused a moment before adding.*
I understand that sometimes God has other callings for us. Are you employed at the Opera?

*Virginia's smile widened as she read his words. He really understood...and expressed it in words she could never seem to find.* "I've just gotten a job as a housekeeper for a family nearby. I used to help at the Opera--spiritually. Do you work here?"

*Aimery blushed again. Her work here had at least been truly for God. He suddenly felt cheapened.*
Yes. But my work isn’t as noble. I’m a dancer.
*He found it hard to meet her eyes.*

*Virginia smiled and shook her head a little.* "What you call noble was, and is, merely what we can each do every day to bring joy and peace to those around us. I merely had nothing else to do. Dance is the ultimate form of worship--through the beauty of music and grace of form one may truly offer praise to the glory of God, and others may see that."

*Aimery’s eyes widened as he felt his face flush bright at her comment. He turned slightly from her to try to hide it. He quickly wrote another comment to hide his nervousness.*
Thank you. You are too kind to say so.
But you have found another calling?
*He hoped to get her on another topic. Hopefully one that wouldn’t make his cheeks so red.*

*Virginia shrugged.* "I suppose so. I can still help--as a housekeeper. This family is so sweet, and I owe them so much for having helped me; now and in the past."
