*Philippe sat down felt the weight shift again to his stronger leg.* It happened during those strange events a few years ago. I awoke to find myself underground and my leg broken. The doctors could never set it right again.*He felt the pain ebb away again and hung his head.* I am truly sorry for my actions. I should not have done.

*Madame Giry shook her head.* "Do not distress yourself, sir. I only..." *she bit her lip and looked away for a moment, and even when she turned her head back towards him she did not meet his eyes.* "Perhaps it is best you should know--that I am with child, monsieur. I will not assume you thought to form any attachment to a woman of my station, but...I still feel I must warn you...that I am damaged goods, as it were."
