"Good God," said Speedicut drunkenly, "this whole place is full of Frenchies."
His companion, a strapping and handsome fellow in full evening dress and looking damned fine in it too gave him a playful clout on the back.
"We're in France, Speed," said Flashman indulgently.
"When did that happen, Flash?"
"While you were drunk old man. You remember? The boat?"
Speedicut tried to focus both his eyes in the same direction and almost succeeded.
"Oh yes! You squeezed the tits of that waitress and then the maitre-d came along and tried to have us thrown out. I gave him a real shiner! Haha, what a night that was..." Speedicut paused, "Where were you when he bashed me on the head?"
Flashman tutted. "Where was I? I was fighting off the rest of the bullies of the house. Anyway that wasn't the boat, that was Claridges last week. Now you sit down over there and sober up while Flashy finds us a programme and some suitable companions."
Speed sank, sloshed, into one of the padded chairs in the foyer while his heroic companion strolled around looking for suitable diversion. Speedicut could go hang, Flashman decided, he was no fun when he was this tipsy. What he really needed now was some brandy and a pleasantly curvy lady of easy virtue. No problem with either, he mused, this is Paris, after all.

Edward watched the two men conversing with amusement. Watching drunk people could almost be as fun as being drunk yourself sometimes. But that was rare. As he stood considering whether this qualified as one of those times or not, Edward noticed one of the men leaving as the other sank into a chair. He figured this was as good a time as any to take advantage of the man. He stepped into plain view and approached the chair, pulling out a small bottle of whiskey he reserved for emergencies, or whenever he was bored.
"Good day, monsieur. You look like you could do with some of this fine whiskey. Would you like some?"
He smiled, figuring getting this strange man even more drunk would just make him more entertaining. It would be quite amusing to test the man's limits.
