*Irene struggled to keep from panicking*
"And how do you propose to act out your plans? Do you have men stationed behind pillars, or do you assume your victim will go out of the goodness of their heart?"

*Moriarty coolly raised one eyebrow*
"How do you know that it is not both? I could wait to see if one of you will give yourself up for the other, and if not, signal my men."

"Prove it."
*Her voice was hard and displayed only a bit of fear*

"Irene, no," *Holmes said quietly.* "You only give him the satisfaction of being wrong. If he is here, it is because he has the ability to carry out his threats."

*Irene said nothing. If Holmes was afraid of this man...*

*Moriarty smiled maliciously*
"How disappointing. Ah, more's the pity, hmm?"
*He straightened his posture*
"So, who shall it be? Holmes? Miss Adler?"

*Irene turned to Holmes*
"You came here to escape this man- don't give yourself up because of me!"

*Holmes turned and looked seriously at her.*
"You can still run," *he told her softly.* "You can escape... him."
*His eyes flickered.*
"I have a chance, still. He doesn't want you, Irene. And he won't stop, if he has you."

"I won't leave you!"
*Her voice was soft but determined*
"After all of this, did you think I could?"

*Moriarty leaned on his cane, looking supremely bored as he let his eyes idly wander the room*

"You don't have a choice," *he said, and kissed her fiercely. Then, before he could change him mind, he stood away from her and looked up at his nemesis.*
"I'll come with you," *he called up.* "But you mustn't take her."

*Moriarty solemnly, and without mockery, placed his free hand over his heart*
"I swear, that I, Professor James Moriarty, will not pursue her."
*He spoke with all sincerity, not a hint of sarcasm*

*Holmes did not know whether Moriarty would keep his word; he was a villain, to be sure, but his sense of fair play was at least somewhat gentlemanly. However, Holmes could not be certain, where he himself was concerned.*
"Irene. Get as far away as you can. And don't, whatever you do, imagine you can help me."
*He fixed her with his hawklike gaze before turned back to Moriarty.*
"I am yours, Professor."

*Moriarty gave a small nod, and true to what was said earlier, quite a few criminal-looking types stepped out from behind pillars and began to approach Holmes*
"You do understand, old chap, if I have you bound first?"
