*He raised an eyebrow at that*
"You're serious? There's a large number of my countrymen here?"

*She nodded.*
"I'm not really sure why, but there are. And I know the police force is seriously lacking," *she said, with a hint of bitterness in her voice.*

*He paused, thinking about it, and one could tell that he was giving it serious thought.*
"If they are used to so many Englishmen, then they may be more accepting of one that wishes to work for them."
*This place could be good for him, as it put distance behind the whole sordid affair in Whitechapel*

*She nodded.*
"I think so, yes."

"In any case, we can talk about that later. Pleasure first, then business."
*He winked at her a moment before going back to scan the crowd*

*She smiled appreciatively.* "Let's hope the opera counts as pleasure then. I don't know from the looks of things."

*At that moment, the doors were opened and the ushers began to wave in the waiting audience, which had grown considerably as time wore on*
"We're about to find out."

*She nodded with a smile and followed him into the auditorium.*

((I'm too lazy to take this somewhere else))
*Seating was a somewhat rowdy affair, although the audience DID settle down once the start music began*

*Beatrice sad in her chair, trying to focus her attention on what on earth was going on, and not the attractive detective next to her, though there was so much going on, and it wasn't in English, which would have been ideal, or even French, which she'd picked up enough of to survive even though everyone spoke English anyway.*

*The opera was a nice distraction from one's troubles, even if it wasn't what he usually used as a distraction. Beatrice's friendly companionship was also a welcome change of pace*
**FADE OUT FROM OPERA, CUZ, LIKE, I'M LAZY**

**FADE IN FROM OPERA, CUZ LAZINESS IS SWEET, YO**
*When the opera had finished some time later, Beatrice clapped with relief. It wasn't that she hadn't liked it, not really, but it had been very confusing and she'd had to stop herself from bothering Abberline to ask questions throughout.*
"Well, that was interesting."

*Applause of the theater...he couldn't recall the last time he'd actually heard it*
"I've seen it once before, and it seems as though my memory about it was good."
Thank goodness.

"You'll have to fill me in," *she said with a laugh.* "I was completely lost the entire time."

*He chuckled along with her*
"Well, in a nutshell, the story is thus: Sarastro, the wise priest of Isis and Osiris, has taken Pamina to the temple for the purpose of releasing her from the influence of her mother, the Queen of the Night. The queen induces the young Prince Tamino to go in search of her daughter and free her from the power of Sarastro; Tamino accomplishes his end, but becomes the disciple of Sarastro, whose mildness and wisdom he has learned to admire. The prince and the princess are united."
