*She brightened a little.*
"Really? I'd love to travel and see far-off places, only..."
*she shrugged.*
"...the problem is, I love home so much."

He started to say "I know what you mean," but he realized he didn't really, so he stopped himself.
"Travelling is quite fulfilling. I've seen many...places. And met many people."
He considered his own words for a moment. He had done quite a bit of travelling, but the truth was that he'd spent most of his time in a kitchen somewhere, accompanied only by coworkers. He felt as though he were lying to Kathy, suggesting some exciting lifestyle out of a novel. But what else could he tell her? After all, it didn't really matter how much she knew or didn't know about his past.

"How intriguing! You must tell me all about it!"
*she clapped her hands excitedly.*

He blinked, concentrating all his effort to keep his face straight.
"Well...I lived in Florence, and Venice, and Rome, and some other towns you probably haven't heard of in Italy." Oh, good job, make her sound stupid again. "Very few people have heard of them. And I lived in...some other places too."
This was all true, and all boring. He hoped it would do for now.

"Oh, I've read so much about such places!" *she said eagerly. As she paused to draw breath, her stomach growled loudly and she snapped her mouth shut, colouring to the roots of her hair.*
Crude country girl!

"Oh, are you hungry?"
This was perfect. He didn't feel like continuing this line of conversation, and what better way was there to change the subject that by bringing up food? It was the only thing he really knew, after all.

"Em, not...not exactly..." *she stammered, embarrassed.
She was a terrible liar.*
But I'm no beggar, either.

He smiled understandingly at her. "It's alright to be--." What a ridiculous statement to make, are you trying to embarrass her more? "Well, I'm hungry. Perhaps we could find someplace to eat? My treat, of course."

"Please, sir, I don't need charity," *she said, flushing miserably.*
What must he think of me?

Luc laughed lightly. "It wouldn't be charity, it would just be lunch. I'm hungry and I would rather not eat alone, especially since I don't know my way around the city yet. I would actually cook something for you myself if it weren't for the fact that I...well, I have no home or workplace yet." He laughed as if this didn't worry him.

"Well I couldn't possibly ask you to pay for my lunch if...if..."
*she shrugged, hesitant to malign his providing skills.*
Da would have an apoplexy if Mam tried to pay for anything he wanted to give her...not that that's anything like this, I mean, they're wedded and took vows and...
*She blushed again.*
"You needn't feel you must."

"I don't feel I must, I feel I want. I mean, I want to. But of course, if you don't wish to accompany me, I understand entirely..."

"Oh, no! I don't object to YOU, not at all! I only...well, I don't quite know how people do these things, you see."
*Being honest once more, she felt much more at ease with herself.*
"I'm a simple country girl, sir."

((Sorry I've been gone so long, I've been doing HP-related things.))
He nodded, but shrugged when she'd finished speaking. "There's nothing to worry about, I assure you. Now, shall we find someplace to eat? A cafe perhaps?"
He gestured behind her, out the front doors toward the Place de l'Opera.

"Well...alright. Thank you," *she beamed, turning to go with him.*
((Sorry I've got to go for now. I just realized my schedule changed and I'm working an hour earlier than normal tomorrow morning. *grumbles and sets alarm for 5.45.* 'Night, all!))
