Loki glanced over at his mother after that, and his brows contracted together a little guiltily.
"It's quite a lot of pressure to inflict on someone who's gone through twenty years of life believing she'll be lucky to have ninety," he amended, "and even if she agrees, who's to say her heart and her mind could withstand the time even if her flesh would? I won't wed her to watch her waste away in a gilded cage."
Seeing the concern on Frigga's face wasn't lessening, he reached forward to put a hand on her shoulder.
"But I didn't return to give you more pain. I've already done enough of that."

"Don't bottle up your pain for my sake. You've done that once, and it led to the greatest regret of my life." She took his hands in hers and tried to smile at him, but the situation was too jumbled and too bleak.

"You'll forgive my return to… sort things out, won't you?"

"Yes, of course- But Loki, please, don't think you are alone in this. Never again." She held him close, her hand at the back of his head. It was partially selfishness - she did not want him to immediately see her eyes fill with tears.

"I know," he said quietly. "I've learned at least that much from all of this."
