Beaming, she pulled the nearest bowl of food over (a rather fancy version of beef ramen that she'd learned from her mother), and started to dish it out for both of them.
"This one is simple, but I had to make it when I found all of the ingredients here in Paris."

Dick inhaled as she pushed the bowl over and smiled "What's it called?"

She paused for a moment, thinking. Did they have a name for it here? she couldn't recall.
"Well, the word back home is 'ramen', but I'm not sure what you would say in English...noodles and beef with vegetables?"

He picked up a pair of chopsticks and fumbled with them a moment before figuring them out "Ramen huh? I think we had something like that back home, except they came in foam containers that you poured hot water on because they were freeze dried or something."
He reached in to the bowl with the sticks and managed a mouthful of noodles.

Yaoya made a face. That container stuff didn't sound all that great.
"Well, this is...fresh. Just off the cooktop!"
As she talked, she herself a portion.
"I didn't know anyone else ate this, outside of home."

"If I remember, the cup noodles kinda tasted like Styrofoam" he said through the noodles "this is hundred times better."

She giggled.
"How do you know what Styrofoam tastes like?"

"I-" he paused and swallowed "I guess I don't" he laughed a little embarrassed.

"Don't worry, I won't tell," she said, still giggling.

"Good, I'm afraid the styrofoam eating society of men might kick me out if they knew" he chuckled and took another mouth full of noodles.

There was more than simply the beef bowl, of course, and she made sure to point each one out, telling him the name in Japanese as she wasn't sure what they were called in English.
"Most of these I learned to cook by myself, because my mother was too sick to teach me. She could still tell me the recipes, of course."

"I can't boil water let alone cook, the fact that you can is pretty amazing."

She blushed.
"Oh! Thank you. It's not hard, once you get practice."

"I try" he smiled "but once they put out the fire in my stove they don't usually let me near one again."
