She smiled a little.
"Would you like me to bring you anything?"

Howl shut his eyes and dramatically laid a hand over his brow.
"If you wouldn't mind, some soup would be nice. And a sandwich!" he added, almost as an afterthought.

"Do we have anything for me to make them with?"

"We should have most of the ingredients in the kitchen...although you may have to rummage through the cupboards," he replied. "You could always go and purchase the ones that we don't have."

"I don't want to go outside again," she said, shuddering guiltily. "I'll see what we have."
She went downstairs for, and returned some twenty minutes later carrying a bowl of soup.
"I'm sorry it took so long. It's probably not very warm- Calcifer's tired. I didn't even know we-"
She paused.
"-you had canned soup around here. Sit up."

Groaning, Howl managed to get himself into a sitting position without the use of his arms. He gently rubbed his lacerated shoulder, which now throbbed painfully despite the fact that he had not applied any form of pressure upon it.
"We do have use for you yet in the castle," the wizard snidely remarked.

"I said I'm sorry- and the bread was too moldy for a sandwich-"

"Hmph. I should hope that the soup is worth it, then."

She took a deep breath, trying to keep her temper.
"If it isn't, blame Mr Campbell or whoever. I've already screwed up enough today. I don't want to have to absorb the blame for anything I didn't do."
She leaned over and pressed a hand to his forehead, gently pushing his hair back.
"You don't feel feverish, or even inflamed."

"I feel terrible, nevertheless," Howl sighed. "The energy's gone out of me."
He turned his head to one side, hoping she wouldn't notice.

"You must be exhausted, I'm sure," she said as she tried to construct some kind of rudimentary bowl-holder out of pillows and a few books. As she bent over, her vision swam a little, and the back of her head throbbed where Reinforce had hit her.
Megan swore internally but managed to mutter nothing stronger than "Ow..." under her breath. She gingerly touched what she was fairly certain was the epicenter of the blow to her head, and while it felt like her skin was probably bruised under her hair, at least it felt like her skull hadn't developed any knots.
And speaking of hair...
As she straightened up again, her eyes took a moment to adjust while she looked at Howl again. His hair was still damp from the exertion of battle, and lay back where she had pushed it when she felt his forehead. This allowed her to notice something for the first time.
"When you're feeling better, you might want to take one of those really long baths of yours that you like so much," she said tactfully, doing her best to phrase this in a way that would emphasize that she was looking out for his own sense of vanity and well-being, "and, um, tend to your hair."
She flickered her eyes very seriously to his hairline and then met his eyes.

He clutched his hair with a horrified gasp and hastily brushed away her hand. She'd noticed, all right. "There's nothing wrong with it!" Howl exclaimed. "I take much pains to attend to my hair, and I assure you, if anything were wrong with it at all, I will have known far before anyone caught sight of the hideous, glaring--"

"There's just a tiny bit of dark showing, that's all," said Megan, without any mockery or giggling at seeing the facade crack a little. "I already knew, of course."

"And what if the dark bit was intentional?" he inquired before he could bite back the words.

This, however, did make her laugh.
"That little tiny bit?"
