He smiled, a smile full of innocence and joy and everything he was, it encompassed all that he knew, felt and could be, and he gave it to Phoenix. "Ve vill leaf as soon as ve can, und I promise, I promise sat it vill all be okay."
((I imagine that the day they decide to leave is the day that The Emcee will die, so it forces them to stay in the city and Sally and Phoenix can revamp the club- mind the pun. And do whatever else you all plan to do with it. That means that they'll again have to go on the backburner until I talk to Ezra again.))

The thing about Ben's smile is that it made him look nothing at all like his brother.
Phoenix was quickly learning to love that about him. She was able to smile back, reassured and feeling an unexpected warmth. It helped, to know... she wasn't utterly broken. That she could still feel something.
"Okay," she said softly. She reached out her hand, timidly, to touch his cheek. "Thank you, Ben."
((Sounds good, actually. All these logistics are confusing!))

((Cool beans, and I sorry )) Ben pressed his cheek in to her hand and continued to smile "Sie sind willkommen."

((Hey, not your fault!))
"You'll have to teach me German sometime," she said, though she'd understood that well enough. "I guess I'll pack."

"Maybe we'll end up there, some day," she said. "For what it's worth, Ben... the same's true for me."

Phoenix's smile here was warmer than any of the others, because it was one thing that made her forget what had happened--at least for a moment.
"I'd love to," she said. "I think you could be really good."

((Sounds good.))
"Me neither," she said, and while she could not bring herself to kiss him, she did hug him quickly, tucking her head against his chest as if seeking shelter.

That was all he needed.
Although he swore to her that it would be all right, and if it took everything he had to make it that way for her, he would, he had no choice. In his mind, it was up to him to save her, and although he had faltered in his duties before, he wouldn't again. He'd take them away from this wretched place, away from the sin of the city and away from his brother.
He had come to Paris in search of the quirky young man that he had known, rebellious and free, but never... never evil. What he had become was worse than anything Ben could have imagined. But what he did to other people, was none of Ben's business, he couldn't save them, but Phoenix, his Phoenix, he could save her.
And he could save himself, before Paris swallowed him whole.
He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, tight and strong, and exhaled.
