*Pina wandered into the cathedral, almost apolgetically. She'd never been one for religion, and walking into a place devoted to a god that she wasn't sure she believed in just to look at the architecture, art and stained glass seemed almost wrong. Whatever guilt she felt, however, soon dissipated as she gazed around the chapel in awe. She walked around slowly, taking in every detail.*

*In the shadows, Quasimodo watched the girl. Nobody was ever here this time of day; everyone was off working. They only came in for vespers at sunset. Despite his awkward shape, he could move relatively undetected towards the walls of the church, dipping behind great stone columns and through clouds of smoke from the incense and candles.*
*He looked on in wonder at the strange girl in the veil. He hadn't seen her here before, and he knew everyone who came into the church.*

*After wandering around for what seemed like ages, Pina sat on a bench in one of the small private chapels off of the main cathedral and started sketching the elaborately carved crucifix to the front.*

*He watched her quietly as she sketched. When he backed up to return to the bell tower, he managed to knock a candelabra over with a resounding 'clang'.*
*He got a stricken look on his malformed face. The candles had blown out in their flight towards the ground, but one could still see him in the light from the candles towards the altar. Now, he was conspicuous.*

*She jumped at the loud noise and whipped her head around to see what had made the sound. She frowned when she saw the hunchback, though she wasn't disturbed by his deformity all that much. It was hard to be, having lived with her father.*
"Were you spying on me?" *she demanded.*

*His, face, if possible, looked even more frightened. His heart rate sped up and he couldn't look at her. He fidgeted and stepped from side to side nervously.*
"I... I mean... I didn't... I... the... er... " *He stammered, suddenly looking up at her with a 'please don't hurt me' face.*

*Her expression softened and she stood, taking a step toward him.*
"Don't do that," *she said with a sigh that managed to sound sympathetic and annoyed at the same time.* "It's all right."

*He stepped back, looking somewhat less terrified but still wary.*
"Please... I was only... I didn't mean to..." *It seemed he couldn't form coherent sentences.* "Please don't tell Judge Frollo I was here..." *He pleaded, looking up at her with huge, scared eyes.*

*Judge who? Was he some kind of convict or something? He seemed a bit too dopey to be a criminal, but of course, looks can be deceiving.*
"I won't tell anyone- calm down."

*He stopped side-stepping and stood in the same place, though he still crouched. Whether it was from fear or the fact that he couldn't stand properly anyway, it couldn't be said.*
"I...I can go back to the tower now. I won't bother you anymore. You just hadn't ever been here before and I know everyone who comes into the Cathedral..."

"I've never been here before. I just came to see the glass and the architecture."
*Though he couldn't see it, her brow furrowed curiously.*
"Do you live in the tower?"

"Oh..."
*She frowned, feeling sorry for the poor man. She could relate what with the wanting to hide from everyone thing.*
"Well, you don't have to go back up if you don't want to. I don't mind."

"I... the last time... when I was down here before..." *He gulped.* "I shouldn't stay down here. I should stay in the bell tower, like Judge Frollo says."
*He suddenly looked very guilty. He was a monster; he didn't deserve to be down here among these people.*

*She frowned. She understood that someone different- moreso even than her or her father- would be afraid of people, but he seemed more afraid of this 'Judge Frollo's' wrath than of anything else. Knowing the way the human race worked, he'd probably been mistreated.*
"Who is Judge Frollo?"
