Richard realized almost immediately that this was the abominable guardian Pina had told him about on the way here, and instinctively stepped between in front of Pina and Quasimodo, putting himself as a barrier between them and the Judge.
"Your Honor," he said mildly, adopting the old tone he hadn't used since he had had disrespectful nobles to deal with. Richard had always been possessed of a certain reverse elitism that lead him to hold the rich to far starker contempt and punishment than the poor, and it showed now in his expression.

Frollo noticed the man put himself inbetween Pina and Quasimodo. He kept a straight face. Why this man insisted on protecting the two was beyond him. He immediatly thought that this was a man to keep an eye on.
(Sorry for the very long wait.>_< it wont happen again.)

"We were merely socializing with the boy," he said with affected nonchalantness, studying his nails in the light coming through the eaves of the tower and deliberately refusing to look Frollo in the eye. The old, arrogant habits were easier than he remembered. "I can assure you that it was not his idea at all, or Proserpina's. I was curious as to the construction of the tower, and I insisted upon going up myself. I had no idea that your ward was kept up here, Your Honor. My fiancee" -he paused significantly- "did protest, as I am certain she meant to respect the boy's secrecy. But I was set in my stubborn ways, sir, and I insisted upon visiting the bell tower myself. I imagine you'll attempt to protest my presence here, to which I quite simply object that this is a house of God, so, to put it delicately- shoo."
