"I'm going to start screaming! Other people are in this building, they'll kill you!"

*He slowly moved away from where he was as he talked*
"Yes. But I let you go, and then what? How do you keep me away then?"

*Mira began to bang on the door, screaming for help*

"For heaven's sake, woman, I'm coming to unlock the door." *Rolling his eyes, he did exactly that *

**NEW NIGHT**
*The inn always seemed to be deserted, at least when he was here, but that was just fine for his purposes this evening. Still keeping at an even pace, he led her through the foyer and directly up the stairs, going for his room. It was better there, as there wouldn't be anybody in it or coming in to interrupt.*
"It's not much, as I actually spend more time outside this building than here, but..."
*The room, like his had been at his old house, was a mess of clothes and books. Not that he didn't have time to straighten things up, it was more because he was too lazy to bother with it.*
"...there you have it."

*Marianne looked around wide-eyed, shocked that she was actually IN the bedroom of a male who was unrelated to her and under the age of 73. And that the room was messy. There was, however, something charming about the mess to Marianne, who had grown up with maids picking up after her night and day.*
"I... thank you. If you hadn't come into that alleyway..." *She trailed off again, turning pink and shifting the canvas bag she had been carrying with her.*

"Well, again, you're welcome."
*He glanced at the bag still in her hand*
"You can set that down anywhere. Just make sure it doesn't get lost in the mess."

*The amount Marianne managed to shove in the bag was impressive, actually. She shuffled over to a corner that didn't have a pile of stuff in it and set it down. The entire sum of her worldly posessions looked very small set in that little corner, and once she turned around, she felt a little naked without it.*
*She bit her lip and vaguely wondered what she should be doing.*

*When she turned around, it was to find him standing rather close...maybe too close. Somehow, he managed to not be touching her despite the small amount of space between them*
"I was just thinking," he said idly, though his voice pitched a bit low.
"Wondering what you were going to do next."

"I'msupposedtomeetaschoolfriendtomorrow." *She squeaked, eyes widening and heart rate increasing from sudden, inexplicable fear.*

*He touched her shoulder, feather-light, and trailed his fingers down her arm*
"You'll be careful when you meet your friend, hmm?"

*Okay, this was bad. She should have insisted upon going straight to the home of her ex-schoolmate; she should never have followed him.*
"Yes." *She said, but it came out as more of a hoarse, strangled squeak than anything intelligible. She fisted her hands in her skirt, making the muscles in her arm tense.*

*Weirdly, instead of following the situation through to the usual conclusion, he took a step back away from her. His outward expression hadn't changed at all, but within was different*
I wonder how long I can drag this out? String her along?
*Well, it was worth a try to see*
"Pardon me. I don't really care much in the way of propriety. So I'd understand it if you wanted to leave now."
Not that you'd get very far.

*She found her knees were turning into jelly anyway, so even if she'd tried to move, she wouldn't have been able to. Everyone she knew in Paris was asleep; she couldn't have called on Marie anyway... her pulse was still pounding from fear of his proximity and what she had been sure was going to happen.*
"I..." *She said faintly.*
*But then her eyes rolled back into her head and she fainted gracefully onto the floor, saving herself a response.*

*Both eyebrows went up in surprise. Well, he hadn't been expecting that. Then again, she was probably the first shrinking violet he'd run across thus far. With a faint, amused smirk, he scooped up the unconscious girl into his arms and carried her over to the bed. Tiny little slip of a thing.
He set her down, Marianne looking for all the world like a doll with it's eyes closed. He stood near the bed, arms crossed, contemplating this turn of events*
"Well, what the hell happens now?" He said to no one.
