*The devil only knew why he was doing this. Valmont was currently in his shirtsleeves in a well-lit window seat, a book open on his upraised knees for the first time since his tutored days.
Well, a book without dirty pictures, that is.*
THE family of Dashwood had long been settled in Sussex. Their estate was large, and their residence was at Norland Park, in the centre of their property, where, for many generations, they had lived in so respectable a manner as to engage the general good opinion of their surrounding acquaintance.
*Valmont frowned and took a sip of claret. This book wasn't going to have any sex in it at all.*

((This makes me giggle. So much.))

***NEW DAY NEW BOOK SAME SHIT***
*Valerie pounded on the door.*
"Open up!"

*It took Valmont a moment.
After all, it was hard to tear one's eyes away to one's own name, and antics, in print and bound between covers.
With interesting engravings.
He finally tucked his finger between the pages and went to the door. Which, he was astonished to find, revealed the little librarian.*
"Change your mind?" *he drawled.*

"I need to stamp your book," *she scowled.*

*Valmont's eyes narrowed.*
"Fail to check me out?"

"You stole that book. Give it to me."

"I'm not finished," *he said, holding the book to his chest.* "And it's very interesting. In fact, care to explain this?"

"Explain what? You did not follow library protocol!"

*Valmont rolled his eyes.*
"Yes, and it was vitally necessary for you to follow me home," *he said.* "No. You answer my question first--what is the meaning of what's in this book? It has everything--names, words, everything. Of course it cannot all be true--" *he sniffed* "--as I have read some very disturbing developments. But it's libelous."
And dreadfully flattering.

*She crossed her arms.*
"I didn't write it, how should I know?"

*Valmont smiled charmingly.*
"Care to tell me why you're really here?"

"I want the book back. If you wish to check it out properly, then fine--but you have to wait until Thursday. It's checked out by someone else at the moment."

"I'm not done," *he said.* "And if someone else has it checked out, they oughtn't have left it at the library."

"I checked it out, I practically LIVE at that library, and I wasn't done before you weren't done, so give it back!"
