John lead Herbert up to the door of the shelter and smiled "It isn't much I'm afraid, but it's pretty much all some of these people have" he pushed through with a smile when suddenly a blond blur hooked on to his leg.
"Hello Marie."
"Hello Papa who's this?" She looked up at the tall man and squinted her eyes, he was pretty.
"This is Herbert is going to be helping me out with some reading."

"Oh, lovely," he said, liking this idea less and less as it went on. "A child."
He glanced around at the derelicts milling around the place, however, and quickly felt more comfortable looking at the small girl again.
"Hello, er... child."

Marie didn't attach herself to his leg as she had done her father in fact she let go of John's leg and curtsied "Good evening sir."

"Evening," he said uncomfortably, clutching the books rather like a child himself.

Marie looked up at John "Well I'll leave you two to your reading" she curtsied again and ran off to do whatever it was that a ten year old does.
"Sorry, she's a little excitable, the study's this way" he nodded and shook hands with some people as they made their way through the shelter.

Herbert found himself staring at the varied homeless people as he passed, walking a bit slower than he usually did as he attempted to take in all the details, however unhappy they may have been.
It didn't take long for him to realize that they were staring back- some of them in simple awe, others with a hungry, pleading sort of look, and some of them in what looked almost like contempt.
He turned away very quickly and walked the rest of the way with his head down.

After going up a flight of stairs John opened the door to a clean but disorganized study "Kind of reminds you of the shop eh?" He smiled and ushered the man in closing the door behind him.
There were books of every kind from history to children's books. "I've a third edition bible around here that the proprietor has been trying to get his hands on for a while" he laughed and pointed it out "please sit down, everything's quite clean I assure you."

John watched him for a moment, he wanted so terribly to ask him what it was like to be him, how life was etc etc. But he stayed quiet, this was for Lost's benefit not his.
"Shall we begin?"

"Wonderful" John smiled and grabbed some books off a shelf that he had got from the library and put them down next to the ones that Herbert had brought.
"Now what were looking for is any information on seeing ghosts or spirits of the departed, both angry and calm. Any recorded history of anyone seeing, well, dead people, and any way to either A: Get rid of it, B: Make it less noticable or C: Find a way to help one cope with it."

"I admit, I haven't ever really looked at these in much detail," he confessed.
Herbert picked up a book and flipped through it.
"Croglin Grange. Hmm- wait, why is that in there?"

Herbert scowled at the book.
"That is not a vampire," he said flatly, jabbing his finger at a picture in the book. "I don't know what that is, but it's not a vampire."
