The girl stumbled backwards, startled, and the flowers intertwined within her hair dropped with a light carelessness to the ground.
"Wha--? How do you--" she managed to choke out.

"My name is Castiel, Xanthe. I'm an angel."
The angel spoke with all the enthusiasm of someone explaining he was to be executed in the morning.

"Why are you here?" she inquired, her voice suddenly quiet. "Have I committed some grievous error in your eyes?"
She fell silent for several seconds.
Finally, she asked, "Am I...to be killed?"

Castiel hung his head.
"It is not through any fault of your own, should that be any comfort," the angel said quietly.
"You did not ask to be conceived, nor born."
Children of angels or demons, for they were often close to the same thing, had become rather a hot issue ever since the spawn of the yellow-eyed demon. To Castiel, however, it wasn't what mattered. Not anymore.
He didn't know whether his Father had handed out orders regarding them, even if he was reasonably sure somebody had. The angel did not truly care.
Crossbreeding mocked him... him and his enslaved race. The human gift of choice being instilled deep within them, in spite of it all... he was almost sure his Father would love them even more than the regular humans. And those were already held far above the true Children.
Born, nay... created... to serve without choice.

Xanthe hung her head, despair written across her eyes. She had been administered pain after pain in her early life--perhaps, there was only so much a human could endure before it was their time to leave the earth.
"I hadn't asked for much, in this life..."

The angel nodded, a sharp knife materializing in his hand.
"I could say I was sorry, but devoid as I am of such emotions it would be nothing but an empty gesture."
Though lately... he wasn't sure how devoid of emotion he truly was... nor whether any gesture could truly be empty.

((Damn my computer!))
Xanthe silently nodded, tears welling in her eyes. She clasped her hands together before her, and leveled her gaze with that of the angel. "Take me, then," the girl stated.
"I am ready."

Castiel slowly walked towards her.
As he held her gaze he whispered, so softly it was barely audible: "I'm sorry."
The angel then thrust the sharp knife into her heart, without even blinking.

Xanthe's eyes widened considerably as she gave a soft gasp, and her mouth opened once or twice, as if she were trying to say something. Her eyes finally closed with a flutter, and her last breath fled her.
Her body sank to the ground.

Castiel's knife disappeared into thin air as he knelt next to the girl's body and administered the last rites.
It was supposed to be given to the dying, not the dead and he wasn't entirely sure whether it did anything... but he was an angel, so it had to count for something, right?
Doubt... that was also new.
He disappeared into thin air.
((murder within 10 posts... is that some sort of record?))

((Haha, it may be.))
*HOURS LATER*
Celestine materialized by the trail and laid a hand upon Xanthe's body, now cold and empty of life. Naught but a shell that had once contained what had been the girl's soul. Scanning the immediate area, he discovered--to his dismay--that there was no blood, and from what he saw, there was no visible wound upon her form, either.
"Him again," he murmured to himself. "Where are you?"
Celestine kneeled to slide one arm around Xanthe's shoulders and the other underneath her knees. Effortlessly, he got to his feet and began to make his way out of the woods, fading from sight before he completely emerged from it.

Ponyta breathed in a lungful of the fresh air.
"Me, too."

Natalie smiled and itched her nose, there was a rustle in the bushes and Natalie stopped "Did you hear that?"

Ponyta went still, straining to hear it.
"I think so."
