((Sorry, he just looks like one.))
*Leetah followed after him and grabbed his arm.*
"Listen to me. We are fighting against an enemy who is overpowering us. People are dying out there. When we are all dead, they will come after you. The demon in your library was there to find a book in your library. Loke has told him it was there!"
*She understood that this human did not understand. She sighed. Everything was lost. The battle, the grail, the world....*
"Fine, go back to your stupid library. Sit there and rot, completely safe! I hope you choke on your self-satisfactory!"
*She ran back to her camp.*

*Giles shook his head and chuckled to himself.*
"Like I'm going to save the world," *he muttered as he went back inside.* "Like the world's actually in more danger than usual."
Teenagers.

*At the end of the day, Giles locked up the library. Valerie lingered nearby, hitching her bag onto her shoulder.*
"Are you sure you're alright?"
"I'm fine, Valerie. Thank you," *he said tightly.*
"...you're not just a librarian, are you?"
"No. Not all the time, anyway. But you're not just a librarian, either. No one is ever just a librarian, or anything, or whatever it is that they are."
*Valerie blinked, and Giles sighed.*
"Goodnight, Valerie."
"Goodnight, Monsieur Giles." *she turned and walked off towards her flat. Giles turned his steps towards a nearby bar he knew to be relatively quiet, clean, and reasonably priced.*

*NEW DAY*
*Supremely bored, Valmont fell back on an old schoolboy standby.
Annoying the librarians about etchings and things.
He sauntered in, formulating his request when he spied the librarian.
A female librarian--a girl, really--was an unexpected, but not unwelcome sight. Even better.*
"Excuse me, mademoiselle," *he said smoothly, smiling his aristocrat smile,* "would you happen to have an illustrated copy of the Kama Sutra?" *he asked.* "Or perhaps, Strange and Wondrous Sexual Rituals of the Orient, Fully Illustrated?"

"Of course. Which edition of the Kama Sutra are you looking for? I recommend the 1859 edition. It has clearer print on heavier paper. Less likely to tear or smudge. You know."

*Valmont, who was very rarely stricken dumb, blinked. Then he tried again.*
"Perhaps you could show me which one contains the most artistic illustrations," *he said.* "Purely for research purposes, of course."

"Depends on your definition of artistic," *she said with a shrug.* "Do you want clearer line work? Abstracts? Realism? Bright colours--or will those hurt your eyes after too long?"

*This was getting nowhere. He would have to change tactics.*
"Perhaps you could show me the one you find most... pleasing."
*He pursed his lips suggestively.*

((Please note I am making all this shit up.))
"Fernetti's illustrations evoke a more fairy-tale like atmosphere, whereas you'll find Salain's edition more rooted in reality. Personally, I prefer books without pictures. Some people like to use their imaginations."

*He raised a salacious eyebrow.*
"Oh, I use mine quite a bit," *he purred.* "My academic interests notwithstanding."

"No doubt. Give me a moment to look up the number--we're integrating the Dewey Decimal System and it's been a nightmare to sort out."
*She slammed a catalogue of every book in the library--volume twelve--onto the table and opened it, waving away the dust and beginning to scan the lists of titles.*

*Valmont hid his irritation. This was not going well at all. She was unflusterable. So far.*
"So tell me... What might a girl like you be able to imagine?"

"Everything," *she said simply, without looking up as she ran her fingertip down the page.* "Sorry--did you want the philosophy behind the Kama Sutra as being a yogic path to enlightenment or were you just in it for the porn?"

*Valmont sidled up to her.*
"I could be contented with something a little more... visceral."

"Porn it is, then." *She located the number, scribbled it onto a slip of paper and handed it to him.*
"There you go, Sparky. Knock yourself out--just go into the bathroom or something, if you're going to."
