With a poof, Jay was standing in a field of trees and giant mushrooms.
"Oh Jesus."
He looked around, it looked exactly like the book had described.
He was in Wonderland.
He wrapped his arms around his chest, and began to walk, following the sound of metal.

*clang!*
"Hyah!"
*clang!*
"Gyah!"
Parry parry, thrust thrust, side-step, dodge, parry...
"Die you dumb straw bastard!"
Sarah was dressed in a rough woolen shirt and pants tucked into ankle-high boots, her hair pulled back in a ponytail. She'd been at this for...well. Ages, it seemed. Her instructor, a playing card, had informed her that it'd been months.
Months since that weird...transition...to this place, showing up in a throne room and having people bow and call her your Highness until it was sorted out that no, she wasn't the Queen, she just looked like her. And then that business about prophecies.
A self-insert's life was never easy.

Hearing the sounds of shouting Jay walked a bit faster.
He soon came in to the clearing where Sarah practiced and stared wild eyed at the whole scene.
"Sarah?"

She'd been balanced on one foot, trying a new stance, when he appeared at the edge of her peripheral vision.
"--huhwhut."
And she fell on her butt.
"Ack!"

He ran over to her, only to be stopped by a card with a tall spear.
"Please, excuse me, I'm her-"

"Oh, hey, Two, that's Jay. I told you guys about him?"
As she got to her feet, the card glanced between the two of them before stepping aside.
"And how did you get here, Jay?!" She said, running over to him.

He took her in his arms and kissed her cheek "The queen, she, she was looking in to Wonderland so I could see you and her cauldron boiled up on to me, and now I'm here."

"Oh, wow. Normally her magic's like, perfect, it's almost annoying." She said, kissing him back.
"What's happened since I've been gone? What did I miss?"

"Nothing really, I've been mostly, if you pardon me, drunk."

She blinked.
"Drunk? I hope it was something good."

"Not really" he said softly "you know I shouldn't be left to my own devices, I'm destructive by nature" he grinned "but now I'm here with you in... " he looked around, truly realizing that he was in a fairytale "Wonderland."

She gave him a hug, then a big grin.
"Yep, Wonderland. It, uh, takes some getting used to, though. Paris can be crazy but even in Paris the flowers don't start singing to you when you walk through the garden."

"I read the book" he smiled "I know a little."
