((Would anyone like to play the managers?? Please??))
Alex marched up to the mangers' office, Mercutio and Rosalind in tow. She was fairly confident in her ability to procure work for them--it seemed anyone could get a job here, and her friends weren't anyone, but it was by no means certain that her pull was quite forceful enough.
Well, she'd see about that.
She knocked smartly, winking at her friends.

*Andre answered the door with a bit of a haughty huff.*
"Yes? Do you have an appointment?"
*Both of them were relatively sure that they had nothing scheduled at the moment, but one could never be too sure of one's social secretary. He glanced between the assembled mass, more confident that there was no planned meeting. And his mid-afternoon snack was waiting.*

Rosalind wouldn't normally have been nervous, but for the fact that her hair was all down beneath the hat she'd swooped up off the floor and she was still in boy's clothes, and she wasn't sure how Alex was going to introduce her. So in the moments before Alex actually spoke to the managers, Rosalind put her hat carelessly on Mercutio's head (not noticing it was hanging into his eyes) and nervously pulled back her hair in the elastic it had been braided in, replacing the cap and hoping that her hair would not get too much attention. She'd seen other long-haired fellows and thought it looked dashing, but you never could be sure.
When the door opened, Rosalind attempted her most professional expression, then imagined it probably looked effeminate. A boyish attempt to regain masculinity had her knock her elbow 'accidentally' against Mercutio's, which would have elsewhere probably have been an invitation to mock-brawl, but didn't work out here. This wouldn't help anyone get a job! She felt a fool and hoped no fool's speeches came out of her mouth in her usual way. It was easy to be charming by being foolish, but she would doubtless in that manner charm them and fail to convince them of her hirability.
If her mouth were capable of such a thing - at least at a time like this - she'd have grimaced.

Alex smiled with ingratiating charm at the managers.
"No, sirs, but you'll want to hear me out anyway. I have with me two talented and tireless young apprentices, Ganymede and Mercutio," she indicated them with one hand, "who are desirous of employment. I happen to know we're in need of stagehand and door-shutters, and I vouch for these two as ideal candidates for those jobs."

Next to Rosalind, Mercutio rocked a little as she jostled him, which led him to give her an "encouraging" clap on the back before turning wide, completely innocent eyes on the managers as he was introduced. He gave a lazy salute and a grin then spread his hands, leaning forward a little as though to convince the managers of his earnestness. "Tireless, yes, and sovery talented. Trainable, too. Tantalizingly trainable entirely truthful tramps. Not tramps, poor choice of words. T-t-t-t- ah, workers."

Trouble-makers. Tribades. Transvestites!
Rosalind bit her tongue, smiled disarmingly, and spread her arm out as though about to give a bow, rather smaller and more delicate than Mercutio, although both were like long-legged insects next to Alex, probably the trustiest of them all. "Troopers," she said, without affectation. "We're regular troopers."

"Troopers!" The word exploded from Mercutio, and he beamed. "Right."
Brilliant!

*Andre didn't look so sure. And right about then, Firmin peeked his nose into the conversation, trying to share the space with his partner.*
"Doorshutters? What's this about doorshutters?"
"They're looking for a job." *Andre explained, rolling his eyes slightly. Firmin seemed a bit confused, his eyes narrowing in on the long haired...individual. He...seemed a bit, well, rough around the edges.*
"And...we need those?" *Firmin queried, as it seemed a rather silly job to him in general.*

Alex had to force herself not to look at Mercutio or Ganymede, lest she break into gales of laughter. Really, they were too much. Which, in her book, was just verging on enough.
"Oh, but you do!" she said with utmost sincerity. "What with the drafts, the rats, the lost patrons, anything can happen if doors are left open willy-nilly. It's very important. And Ganymede here is an excellent closer of doors. He can demonstrate for you, if you like. But you can trust me. I wouldn't lead you astray on something of such import to the health of the entire company."

*Firmin seemed rather intrigued that there was such a position, or at least the need of such a thing. Andre didn't look so convinced.*
"Of course." *His hesitation read in his tone.* "And this other fellow?" *He gestured slightly with his hand.*

"Mercutio?" Alex said. "I've noticed a distinct lack of youthful, able stagehands," she said. "This is hard labor, with expensive sets and complex staging to worry about, and it seems all entrusted to old men." This was not strictly true, but it fit whatever story Alex was selling. "It seems to me we couldn't go amiss, injecting a little new blood into the company, training up the next generation."

Mercutio drew himself up, cocking an eyebrow. "Monsieurs, are you not in need of sturdy, reliable, hard-working stagehands?" he asked, not at all lying. After all, he'd never referred to himself as such. "Why, only this morning I slung a particularly troublesome sack over my shoulder, weighing at least- oh, I dunno, I'd compare it to the weight of an equally troublesome lad."

"It was not nearly so heavy as a lad," Rosalind piped up. "I'd say it was as heavy as a young girl in the bloom of youth. Also, a pretty one. Enormously pretty. A face that one would not dream of hiding behind a feminine fan. But," she said, deciding to be helpful to Mercutio and not belittle his strength and effort, "it was long and wide and he carried it up the stairs."

*Both managers seemed a bit put off by the confusing banter, frowning slightly. Well, Andre's frown was deeper. Firmin tried to help the conversation along though, piping up with,*
"So...you both...have experience?" *He didn't sound confident in that assessment.* "I mean, have you ever worked for the theatrical world at large?" *He was looking for a reference, some sort of confirmation of their claimed abilities.*

Alex's eyes slid from one to the other, hoping they wouldn't botch this one. The banter, while amusing, was unnecessary, and it gave Alex much grief when it came to stifling her laughter. She'd already vouched for them; she didn't know if repeating that would serve.
She also wasn't sure what sort of experience one needed to close doors. Then again, they both had such great fun dressing up.
